    Ninety-one announcements or press releases about our Founders' Day Luncheon were sent out to 35 organizations, 15 television and radio stations 3 newspapers, 5 libraries and 33 churches.
    The Sentinel Voice called and asked for more information. The information requested was delivered. The article about our Founders' Day Luncheon will appear in their newspaper next week.
    One of the Ivy Leaf Copy Deadlines is approaching very rapidly, January 15, 2003. Our committee will attempt to meet this deadline. We are working on a couple articles.
    I would like to meet with my committee for five minutes following this meeting.

    Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA), Theta Theta Omega Chapter, is hosting its 25th annual Founder’s Day Luncheon at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd., on Saturday, Jan. 11, at noon. Keynote speaker for the event is past national AKAPresidentDr. Norma Solomon White, who will speak on “The Spirit of AKA.”
    Founder’s day is "where we honor our founders because they set the tone for the organization,” said newly elected PR director for the AKA local chapter, JacquelynCaffey. “It’sthat tone that young people today can relate to; service to mankind.”
    AKA was established on January 15, 1908 in Miner Hall at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Founder Ethel Hedgeman Lyle invited eight other young women to join her in creating a sisterhood to cultivate high academics and ethical standards among college women, and to be of service to mankind.
    The sorority’s name, Alpha Kappa Alpha, are the first letters of Greek words that state its motto, “by culture and by merit.” Several

    Norma Solomon White, who will speak on “The Spirit of AKA.”
    years after it was created, sixteen women are credited as founders of the womens’ social organization with more than 170,000 members in more than 900 chapters around the globe.
    “I was very impressed with the AKAs," Caffey said when asked why she pledged America’s first Greek-letter organization primarily for African-American college women. “I liked the way they looked. I liked the way they acted. I liked what they stood for. I was honored to join them.”
    Dr. White is a retired educator who has 37 years of service to secondary education in Duvall County, Florida, and 12 years at Florida Community College. She has held many leadership roles in organizations such as the Educational Advancement Foundation Board, United Negro College
    Fund, Florida A&M University, and her sorority.
    She is the recipient of many awards and honors, and has authored books -— especially for the ladies of the pink and green — as well as curriculum materials used in kindergarten through 12th grade.
    On a lighter note, Dr. White’s mother, Ruth C. Solomon, is also her sorority sister.
    Admission to attend this event is $40, with proceeds going to fund AKA’s local projects. Improving academics among black students, observance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, economic development. health issues, and an appreciation of the ails are just some of many causes championed by the social Greek organization.

The article is ready but we are having problems getting a good picture of the King & Queen. We really should have used a professional photographer. They are so expensive but in the long run it is the better way to go.

    Las Vegas Sentinel Voice:
    We submitted our Mardi Gras Ball article to the Las Vegas Sentinel Voice but this time was unsuccessful in getting it published in their paper so we published it Just for You. The article is attached.
    Thanks to all who worked on the article especially Soror Ina Dorman who staged the King and Queen photo and delivered it to my house. Don’t they look beautiful?

    We submitted our Founders’ Day article inclusive of a photograph to the Ivy Leaf Magazine. Hopefully it will get published.

    AKA Day at the Capitol
    We are gathering information and photos about this successful event. We would like to submit an article about this event to the Ivy Leaf Magazine.

    Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Theta Theta Omega Chapter Reaches Scholarship Goal at their Mardi Gras Ball
    Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Theta Theta Omega Chapter reached its scholarship goal for the year with proceeds from their Sixth Annual Mardi Gras Ball. The joint partnership between Ronald McDonald House of Charities and Theta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc will enable the chapter to give $10,000.00 in scholarships. The scholarships will go to outstanding young ladies as they prepare to attend college. Theta Theta Omega Chapter is assisted in this endeavor by the Clark County Public Education Foundation. The sorority has awarded scholarships to deserving college bound young women since its inception in 1965.
    The Mardi Gras Ball is a project of the Ways and Means Committee co-chaired by Marian D. Bums and Jacqueline R. Hall. Verlia Davis Hoggard won the award for selling the most ads in the souvenir journal. Ethel Archibald won the award for selling the most tickets to the ball.
    The additional proceeds from this very successful affair will enable the chapter to fund other Alpha Kappa Alpha signature programs, such as; The National Leadership Initiative on Cancer Community Forum, the Annual Community Economics Seminar held the second week in December (a collaborative with Omega Pst Phi Fraternity) the Multicultural Arts Festival, the Ivy Reading AKAdemy Program and numerous other community based programs that target the family, health, education, the arts, economics, and leadership development
    Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Theta Theta Omega Chapter under the leadership of Billy Knight Rayford, president, Barbara McCants-Hill, first vice president and Sharon Savage, second vice president are already gearing up for more scholarship and community fundraisers.

    Theta Theta Omega Chapter presented their 2003 Community Awards at the Ball. The following community awards honorees were; Nevada Business Services, Inc.- Economics Empowerment Award, Annie R. Hall of Southern Nevada Black Nurses Association - Health Award, Donnetta Miller Kyle of Southern Nevada Black Nurses Association - Health Award, Frank McBride, Sr. - The Arts and Humanities Award, Dr. William "Bill" Sullivan, Director of TRIO Programs at UNLV- Education Award, Marcia Rose-Walker, Executive Director of Economics Opportunity Board -The Black Family and Hannah Brown, President of Urban Chamber of Commerce - Economic Empowerment Award.
    Over 300 guests enjoyed the splendor of the New Orleans themed Sixth Annual Mardi Gras Ball at the Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino on Saturday, March 1,2003. Guests enjoyed dancing to the band music of Total Class. Line dancing was the order of the night The New Orleans style buffet was a hit with all the attendees. Guests received souvenir booklets. Members of the sorority did their line strut and strolled with then- colorful parasols; which have become traditions of this event The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the Mardi Gras King and Queen. The couple is voted on by members of the sorority but not revealed until announced at the Ball. This year's festivities were reigned by Kang Dwight Dorman and Queen Ina Dorman. Members of their Court were Leo and Shirley Carroll, Thomas and Ouida Brown, Graig and Donnyss Rucker, Pitt and Marian Bums.
    The final highlight of the evening was the raffle drawing. The three hundred guests had the opportunity to win two tickets anywhere Southwest flies donated by Southwest Airlines. Other donors were Las Vegas Golf Club, Karen Johnson from Home Interiors and Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Annette Craighead donated 50 personalized business cards. The winners were very excited to receive the gifts.

    We were published in the Ivy Leaf, Spring Edition. See attached articles.

    We are working on two articles that we hope will be published in the Summer Edition of the Ivy Leaf, one for the Regional Listings Section and one for the Newsmakers Section.
    Public Relations Report
    Problem:
    Theta Theta Omega Sorority is involved in so many wonderful projects that the community needs to know about yet there are too few sources to publicize them in.
    Solution:
    At our Theta Theta Omega Executive Board meeting we discussed having a Theta Theta Omega Public Website. Because of our limited funds, we will have to use the resources of our sorors to make this a reality.
    We are asking all who have knowledge of how to set this website up to meet with us at our five minute meeting today. Your services will be greatly appreciated.
    Five Minute Meeting
    The Ivy Leaf/Public Relations Monthly Five Minute Meeting will be held once again at the Chair’s seat today right after this meeting. We will discuss the upcoming Theta Theta Omega Public Website and the upcoming Ivy Leaf articles.

    Theta Theta Omega Receives Arts and Humanities Grant
    Las Vegas, NV — A grant of $1,000 from the Nevada Business Services was secured by die Arts and Humanities Chairman, Soror Quin Rivers, for a unique Multi-Cultural Dance Festival. Theta Theta Omega Chapter co-hosted the event with the Nevada Busmess Service on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Cambridge Recreational Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The purpose of die event was to provide exposure of the fine arts from a multicultural perspective to underprivileged/at risk youths in the community.
    Theta Theta Omega Chapter AKATeens as well as over 100 underprivileged youths and adults attended the affair. They experienced die talents of many dance performers and dieir styles of dancing such as Polynesian, Flamenco, Mexican, Caribbean, African, and Native American. Members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity added their

    outstanding step dancing. The dancers ended their performance widi an invitation to die audience to come on stage and learn die various steps to the aforementioned dances.
    Youth participate in Theta Theta Omega’s multi-cultural Dance Festival.
    Theta Theta Omega Chapter -and die Nevada Business Service-are considering making this worthwhile experience an annual event,
    Las Vegas, NV Sorors gathered in the ^kvition room of the North Las Vegas Care WWler to assemble and deliver care packages for 168 residents of the center. Chapter members donated socks, toiletries, and general health care items for the residents. Twenty sorors from Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi Chapters participated in the MLK Day of sen ice activity.

    The following gives brief over views of the events, meetings, conferences, etc., attended by the Program Chair:
    Young Author’s Contest
    On Wednesday, April 9, 2003, The Young Author’s Committee of the Education Committee hosted four-selected community persons who participated in reading and judging the essays submitted to the community from three elementary schools in Las Vegas. These judges made the selection of winners.
    On Wednesday, April 23, 2003, a program and reception were held to present the winners of the Young Author’s contest. Sorors of the committee welcomed parents, teachers and students from the three selected schools. After a brief program, certificates were presented to the winners.
    This Program Chair would like the soror who is chairperson of this committee to submit a report of this event to her as soon as possible.
    NBLIC Conference
    On April 17, 2003, NBLIC Conference, “Addressing Real and Potential Health Disparities in the Las Vegas Environment”, was held at the Monte Carlo Hotel. Speakers from the field of health care and cancer research made presentations concerning cancer, the disease and its detection to the audience of sorors and other men and women present. Sorors, who are members of the Witness Board were introduced to the audience present. Sorors Dorothy Johnson and Quida Brown are to be commended for such a well planned conference.
    Mother- Daughter Tea- “Young at Art “
    The Mother-Daughter Tea was held at Holy Trinity A.M.E. Church, on Sunday, May 19th. AKA Teens and their mothers, as well as sorors and their daughters and/or mothers attended this first time event. The talents of AKA Teens and sorors entertained the audience. Sorors and guests were able to sip tea and/or punch while viewing art works and mingling with those present. Arts and Humanities co-chairs Sorors Bertha Pendleton and Edna States and their committee are to be commended for such a cultural experience.
    The Program Chair is requesting a report of this event as soon as possible.
    Farwest Regional Conference- Anchorage, Alaska
    _This chairperson served as a delegate to this conference. A full delegate report will be given at the June 2003, meeting. All delegates should submit their section of the report to me for the compiling of one overall report as soon as possible.

They will train you on how to set up a web site. I submitted an application for our organization to participate in this program and am waiting for a response. Dorothy Johnson also agreed to help us with this project. Thank you!!!!!

    Notice: All committees are responsible for paying for your publicity. If you want a Press Release sent out to organizations, the media, libraries and churches, your committee will have to pay for the postage, paper, labels and envelopes at a cost of approximately $50.00. We will be responsible for preparing the Press Releases, stuffing them and mailing them.
    If you want to try to get a follow-up Feature Article published in the local newspapers, it is the responsibility of the committee chair to compile the data, gather the photos and submit the article to the newspaper.     Soror and Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald of Theta Theta Omega Chapter recently shared the experiences of her travels throughout India as part of a two-week political study prognun sponsored by the American Council for Young Political Leaders, a bi-partisan organization based in Washington, DC,

    Theta Theta Omega Celebrates Outstanding Students
    Las Vegas, NV — Theta Theta Omega Chapter hosted two receptions for outstanding students. The first one was held at the Clark County Schools’ Board of Education Center in Las Vegas, Nev. on April 23, 2003 for the participants in the Young Authors Contest and their families. The winners of this writing contest received certificates, backpacks, pens and other writing materials. Grades kindergarten through third wrote essays entided, “If I Were President, 1 Would” Grades four and five wrote essays entitled, “We Deserve to Have World Peace.” Soror Patty Hester and her committee coordinated the writing project and the reception.
    The second reception was held in the Education Center at Holy Trinity A.M.E. Church in Las Vegas where deserving high school seniors received scholarships. The joint partnership between Ronald McDonald House of Charities and Theta Theta’Omega Chapter enabled tlie chapter to give $10,000 in scholarships to selected students. Soror Sharon Savage and her committee coordinated this prognun and reception.
    Billie Knight Rayford, basileus of Theta Theta Omega Chapter and Diana G. Shipley Far Western Region Director review the resolution for Nevada legislators.
    Las Vegas, NV — Twenty-two Alpha Kappa Alpha sorors traveled to the capitol of Nevada to provide support for establishing an Office of Minority Health for the growing minority population in Nevada. Twelve sorors came from Nevada, including Sorors Billie Knight Rayford, basileus Theta Theta

    1. We were published in the Ivy Leaf, Spring Edition. See attached articles.
    2. We are working on two articles that we hope will be published in the Summer Edition of the Ivy Leaf, one for the Regional Listings Section and one for the Newsmakers Section.
    Public Relations Report
    Problem:
    Theta Theta Omega Sorority is involved in so many wonderful projects that the community needs to know about yet there are too few sources to publicize them in.
    Solution:
    At our Theta Theta Omega Executive Board meeting we discussed having a Theta Theta Omega Public Website. Because of our limited funds, we will have to use the resources of our sorors to make this a reality.
    We are asking all who have knowledge of how to set this website up to meet with us at our five minute meeting today. Your services will be greatly appreciated.
    Five Minute Meeting
    The Ivy Leaf/Public Relations Monthly Five Minute Meeting will be held once again at the Chair’s seat today right after this meeting. We will discuss the upcoming Theta Theta Omega Public Website and the upcoming Ivy Leaf articles.

    Theta Theta Omega deceives Arts and Humanities Grant
    T,;is Vegas, NV — A grant of $1,000 from the Nevada Business Services was secured by the Arts and Humanities Chairman, Soror Quin Rivers, for a unique Multi-Cultural Dance Festival. Theta Theta Omega Chapter co-hosted the event with the Nevada Business Service on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Cambridge Recreational Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The purpose of the event was to provide exposure of tire fine arts from a multicultural perspective to underprivileged/at risk youths in the community.
    Theta Theta Omega Chapter AKATeens as well as over 100 underprivileged youths and adults attended the affair. They experienced tlie talents of many dance performers and their styles of dancing such as Polynesian, Flamenco, Mexican, Caribbean, African, and Native American. Members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity added their
    North Lais Vegas Care Center
    outstanding step dancing. The dancers ended their performance with an invitation to the audience to come on stage -and learn the various steps to the aforementioned dances.
    Youth participate in Theta Theta Omega’s multi-cultural Dance Festival.
    Theta Theta Omega Chapter and the Nevada Busmess Service are considering malting this worthwhile experience an annual event.
    Las Vegas, NV Sorors gathered in the recreation room of the North Las Vegas Carc Ccnter to assemble and deliver care packages for 108 residents of the center. Chapter members donated socks, toiletries, and general health care items tor the residents. Twenty sorors from Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi Chapters participated in the MLK Day of service activity'.
