    l The sorority is more than an organization of over 200, 000 members. It is a
    I sisterhood that inspires, supports, creates, and assists ad to he the best that I
    they can 6e.
    I In 1965, Tlieta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I
    I was chartered in Las Uegas, Nevada. Alpha Kappa Alpha has been a I
    I recognizedforce in the community. The sorority sponsors the AKATeens, a I
    teen enrichment program, the National (Btackfnitiative on Cancer, the St.
    | James the Apostle Catholic Church reading program, the African Shoe bog I
    I (Program, andannualscholarship fundraisers.
    OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY,
    INCORPORATED
    I On Friday, November 17, 1911, three JCoward University undergraduate I
    | students, with the assistance of their faculty advisor, gave birth to Omega |
    I (Psi (Phi Fraternity, Inc. This event occurred in the office ofbiology professor I
    I Dr. Ernest E. Just, the faculty advisor. The three liberal arts students were I
    (Professor (IranfgColeman, Dr. Oscar J. Cooper, and (Bishop Edgar A- Love. |
    Thhe fraternity is founded upon four cardinal principles, (MANHOOD, I
    I SCHOLAKSHIE, (PEKSEUEIRANCE, and UPLIFT. Some positive I
    internationally known brothers of Omega (Psi (Phi Fraternity, Inc. consist of I
    I (BillCosby, (MichaelJordan, Jesse Jackson, andLangston'.Hughes. j
    I The Kappa Xi Chapter of Omega (Psi (Phi Fraternity, Inc., was founded in I
    I Las Uegas, Nevada in February 1977. Since its inception, the brothers of I
    Kappa Xi have participated or coordinated some of the following events: I
    I annual scholarships, boolg drives, essay contests, senior citizen projects, I

SavageMarch 2, 2002Scholarships for 2002 will be facilitated by the Clark County Public Education Foundation Scholarship Program. The application deadline is April 12, 2002. Applications will be available and distributed to all of the high schools the week of March 5, 2002.The joint scholarship reception with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated is being planned for June 2002.

SavageApril 6, 2002Scholarships for 2002 will be facilitated by the Clark County Public Education Foundation Scholarship Program. The application deadline is April 12, 2002. Committee members will be notified of the selection date, time and location.Applications were distributed to the West Las Vegas Library, KCEP Radio Station, all of the high schools and on the world wide web at a public service announcement iscurrently being aired on KCEP Radio station at various times through out the day.The joint scholarship reception with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated is being planned for June 15 2002 or June 22, 2002. The date, time and location will be announced at the May Sorority meeting.

There are seven recipients. They are Emerald Gipson, Western ($1,000); Angel Flowers, Foothills ($700); Ashley Rivera, Eldorado ($700); Anisha Edwards, Vo-Tech ($400), Janina Walker, Bonanza ($400), Zuila Getahun, Las Vegas Academy ($400); and Myicia Wright, Las Vegas Academy ($400). A total of $4,000 was awarded and those funds have been disbursed to the Clark County Public Education Foundation for distribution to the recipients. The Foundation will honor all Class of 2002 Recipients at a luncheon at the House of Blues on May 29 2002.Thank you to Sorors Jacqueline Hall and Edna States for serving on the Selection Committee. Twenty six applications were received and reviewed.The joint scholarship reception with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated is scheduled for 2:00 pm on June 22, 2002 at the Las Vegas Library located at 833 North Las Vegas Blvd.

SavageSeptember 7, 2002Scholarships for 2002 were facilitated by the Clark County Public Education Foundation Scholarship Program. The funds were secured and a check was written to the Clark County Public Education Foundation Scholarship March 2002. Scholarships have been disbursed.The joint scholarship reception with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated was held on June 22, 2002 at the Las Vegas Library. A special thank you to all Sorors who were in attendance and for their participation.
