Far Western Regional Conference of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

    May 1, 2002 - May 5, 2002

    San Diego, California

On May 2, 2002, the Far Western Regional Standards Committee members met to discuss the following: the duties of the Regional Committee was reviewed , the standards reports were reviewed, letters were prepared to the Undergraduate and Graduate Chapters, Discussion of delegated responsibilities for the Workshop on Saturday, and the sharing of ideas and concerns.

On May 4, 2002, I attended the Workshop, Celebrating the Artistic Legacy, which was presented by the International Program Committee Representatives. The workshop provided Sorors with the opportunity to share their artistic talent . Two of the Sorors presented monologues and recited speeches of famous African Americans.

Emphasis were placed at the workshop on the following: how important it is for Alpha Kappa Alpha to make a sincere effort to heighten the awareness and develop an understanding and appreciation of the arts of African American culture, with a particular focus upon the efforts to preserve Black Music, to celebrate AKA Arts Panorama Month ( in April or May), to have participation of the arts at chapter, cluster, regional and international meetings, and to enhance the impact of African American on the contemporary arts, artists and arts organization, making the arts available to a larger public and support arts education.
