Fitzgerald Elementary in the classroom of Ms. Priscilla Graves. Ms. Hutchings was kind enough to contribute her time and talent with no charge to the Sorority.Four Sonjs Ethel Archibald, Ina Dorman, Diane Stith along with myself had the opportunity to meet Humanitarian, Winnie Mandella. It was an awesome experience to meet this strong African Woman.This past week was Nevada Reading Week, and the month of March is Nevada Reading Month. I will need volunteers to read to a class at H.P. Fitzgerald Elementary School.In the month of April, 2001, we will attempt to have another Storyteller.In May, we are planning the Arts and Humanities Camp with the Writing Fair.
AKATeen ReportThe AKAteens will be meeting again on Saturday March 10. At this meeting they will be having a two part workshop on proper dress and table etiquette. The ladies are really excited about the workshops we have lined up and have already conducted.On Monday Feb. 19th the ladies got together with several committee members at Texas Station and went to brunch and a movie. This was very beneficial because it allowed the ladies some time to get to know each other better.On Saturday Feb. 24th, the ladies had a business meeting in which they discussed future events as well as purchasing an AKAteen jacket. Also the results of the tryouts for the Unityfest stepshow team were announced. There are currently 15 steppers and three alternates. Our place of practice fell through so I am again asking if anyone knows of a place they can practice on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7pm to 9pm, please contact one of the committee members. Later that afternoon, several ladies read poetry at the Black History program held at West Middle School. They really did us proud.The majority of the ladies have expressed an interest in attending our Founders Day Luncheon. I am asking now that if any soror is willing to purchase a meal for one of the ladies please let us know so that we can make arrangements.

Fitzgerald Elementary School on Friday May 11, 2001. Members of the Sorority will make presentations to the Ms. Priscilla Graves class. The Writing Fair will be held in the morning. If anyone has any books on African American Poets, and Poetry, please let me know. - I 'XCarreer Day Activity will also be held at H.P. Fitzgerald Elementary School that same afternoon.If there are any Sorors interested in participating in either activity please advised me. Career Day is from 1:00 p.m. til 3:00p.m. They are looking for speakers to speak to the students regarding their careers , work experience and educational background.Also Soror Billie has been kind enough to volunteer her expertise in preparing a Grant for the Arts and Humanities Committee. Thanks for your assistance Soror Billie.

On May 11, 2001. the Arts and Humanities Committee of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority,Theta Theta Omega Chapter presented a Arts and Humanities Fair at H.P. Fitzgerald
Elememtary School. The Sorors who attended and participated were our Basileus, Kaweeda
Adams, our Anti Basileus Billy Rayford, Soror Ethel Archibald, Soror^Jackie Hall and myself.
Our Basileus Kaweeda conducted a presentation on Jazz. The presentation consisted of the
class listening to famous Jazz Artists and learning about the historv of Jazzj|
Soror Jackie was in of charged of the Arts and Crafts; Every student received a snapshot
m a frame.
[Sororjsthe^read a story to the class and conducted a writing exercise which the class really
enjoyed.
[Soror Billy provided her expertiseffi^our own personal photographer.
I selected poems from both male and female African American Poets that were presented to the
class^
HCwould also like to express my thanks and appreciation to Soror Sharon Savage who assisted
me in utilizing her computer skills and creativit^in typing the poetry.
H.P. Fitzgerald was also sponsoring Career Day. 1 wa| able to participate and spoke to three
classes regarding my profession and encouraged them to sla\yf? school and get an education.

Fitzgerald Elementary School in the Kindergarten Class of Soror Gwen Bartlette Gates on Wednesday, October 31, 2001. The following Sorors were in attendance: Soror Sharon Walton, Soror Ethel Archibald, and myself.Soror Ethel entertained the class by reading them a Halloween story. Soror Sharon and myself played counting game with them. The class counted in both English and Spanish. Halloween greats were passed out]The children were dressed in their Halloween Costumes. We discussed the safety measures and precautions that should be taken when Trick or Treating.The class also entertained us by singing .Tt was^i heart warming experience .

February:
Soror Celese Rayford will coordinate the Black History Month Guest Speakers
African Storyteller to present to the students
Irma Brooks will coordinate the volunteer readers for Nevada Reading Week Feb 26th -
March 2nd.
April:
Soror Quin Rivers will coordinate a Multicultural Dance Festival @ Fitzgerald ES. This
will be in the form of an assembly of a variety of ethnic groups who will present a miniexposition
of the cultural dances and traditions.
May:
Arts and Humanities Camp
Sorors Kaweeda Adams and Ethel Archibald will coordinate the Arts and Humanities
camp which will focus on arts and crafts, art history, and writing/language arts literacy.
All activities will stem from African and African-American studies.
Other activities for the 2001-2002 school year are to be determined.
