Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.Theta Theta Omega Chapter72nd Regional Conference Delegate ReportSeptember 8, 2001The 72nd Far Western Regional Conference was held June 6-10, 2001, in Oakland, CA. Alpha Nu Omega and Rho Chapters hosted the conference.The 2001 Theta Theta Omega Regional Delegates would like to thank the chapter for the opportunity to serve as delegates. The 72nd Regional Conference was a resounding success. The delegates were Sorors Ethel Archibald, Terri Polite, Sharon Savage, Carolyn Parks, Quin Rivers, Marian Bums, and Kaweeda G. Adams. We brought back a conference agenda and souvenir booklet for your review at the end of the meeting.The conference highlights are as follows:■ The registration process went very smoothly, over 800 sorors were in attendance.■ Soror Sharon Savage presented the MIP at the Graduate Advisor Institute, and she was also re-certified as a Graduate Advisor.■ Soror Billie Rayford did an excellent job with the hospitality responsibilities for the Basilei Leadership Breakfast on Friday, June 8, 2001, where Soror Mattelia B. Grays was the keynote speaker.■ The first Plenary Session was held on June 8th from 9:30 am-11:30 am. Soror Diana Shipley, presiding. The business conducted entailed reports from the registration chair, the rules committee, seating of delegates, appointment of 2001 conference officers, adoption of the 2001 conference agenda and approval of the 2000 conference minutes. Soror Norma Solomon White was introduced and gave a State of the Sorority address, which has been copied for your review. The message was followed by presentations from the standards, leadership, and membership committees. Soror Diana Shipley gave her Regional Director’s Annual Report and the first plenary session concluded with a rededication ceremony with Sorors Mary Shy-Scott, 23rd Supreme Basileus and Soror Mildred Robinson, 14th Far Western Regional Director, presiding.“ The Second Plenary Session began at 3:30 p.m. During this session, reports from the program, connections, executive director’s, finance committees and the Educational Advancement Foundation were presented. Honorary Members representative Soror Daria Ibn-Tamas presented on the inductions from Boule 2000. Soror Diana introduced the newly certified Graduate Advisors and the second plenaiy session recessed after the introduction of the Leadership Development Participants and the constitution report.■ Saturday, June 9, 2001, began with the Ivy Beyond the Wall Ceremony and conference workshops. Soror Kaweeda G. Adams presented on “How to Say It: Utilizing Technology to Enhance Chapter Operations”. Our chapter was represented by our delegates in the following workshops: Laughing All the Way to the Bank, AKA Standards: United We Stand, The Three R’s Recruit-Reclaim- and Retain, Family-School-Community Partnerships, Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome (Soror Terri Polite will head up this new endeavor for Theta Theta Omega), Running for Office, and Human Relations for Leaders.■ The Third Plenary Session contained regional committee reports. Soror Billie Rayford, Chair reported from the Boule/Hospitality Committee. The time and place committee report was presented by Soror Brenda Vasser, Chair where it was passed that the 2005 Far West Regional Conference be held in Las Vegas, NV. Other reports submitted were from the Undergraduate Activities committee, recommendations/resolutions, evaluations, registration, and philacters committees. During the awards and exhibits portion of the session, Theta Theta Omega was well represented. Theta Theta Omega was the 1st recipient of the Cornelia Harris-Banks Health Award. Congratulations to Soror Dorothy and the NBLIC Committee. Our scrapbook received 2nd place. Thank you to Sorors Ina Dorman, Jackie Hall, and the scrapbook committee. Soror Billie Rayford received 2nd place for the Ida L. Jackson Award Category, and Soror Annette Craighead received 2nd place in the poetry category. Theta Theta Omega was also recognized by the Educational Advancement Foundation for earning a Doctorate Degree for our commitment to blazing the trail to educational conquests. Thank you to Soror Carolyn Parks as she was instrumental in securing the funding that enabled us to achieve the Doctorate Degree. Theta Theta Omega also received certificates of recognition for our participation in the Ivy Academy and the ON TRACK programs. Thank you to Sorors Belisa and Shirley and their respective committees for the AKAteens and ON TRACK programs.■ Saturday evening concluded with the formal banquet where Dr. Rodney Hood, President of the National Medical Association was the keynote speaker.■ Sunday, June 10, 2001, began with an inspiring prayer breakfast with Soror Doris Kyle presiding and the guest speaker was retired Bishop and Soror Leontyne T. C. Kelley. After the prayer breakfast, the 72nd Far Western Regional Conference was adjourned.Again the 2001 delegates thank the chapter for and awesome opportunity. beautiful award winning presentation.
3. Soror Annette Craighead - 2nd place - For her entry in the poetry category.
4. Soror Billie Rayford - 2nd place - Ida L. Jackson Award category
5. Soror Sharon Savage for her excellent workshop for graduate advisors.
6. Soror Kaweeda Adams received rave renews for her workshop on communication and the use of technology.
