Meeting - May 13, 2000 - Minutes
The meeting was called to order by the Basileus at 3:15 P.M. at the Saint James the Apostle Catholic Church. Soror Jackie thanked the hostesses Sorors Dorothy Earle, Teri Polite, Clair Hart, Quin Rivers, and Gwen Gates-Bartlett. In the absence of Soror Barbara Kirkland, Soror Willa White was asked to lead us in meditation; which was followed by the Pledge.
Soror Jackie urged sorors to please be prompt for the meeting. Our roster numbers 71 members, so it is necessary that we have a quorum of 35 present.
Officer Reports
Grammateus: Anti-Grammateus read Minutes of previous meeting.
Motion: Minutes be accepted as read; seconded by Soror Willa.
Tamiouchos: Soror Carolyn reported Operating Account Balance of®3$^hAhSFundraising Account Balance Community Account Balance
Pecunious Grammateus: Soror Mmarian Burns reported a total received.
Epistoleus: Soror Rhoda reported an invitation received from the H. P. Fitzgerald School for their Cotillion on May 22. Newsletters were received from Exotique Express, and First Fridays.
Hodegos: Soror Billie Rayford welcomed Soror Barbara Sims who is reactivating today.
Hostesses for June meeting were announced. Birthday greetings were extended to sorors who have May birthdays; also anniversary greetings were extended. Thank you from Sorors Elsie and Denise Bryant for wishes for “honey doo” who continues to improve. Thanks from the Bolden family. Cheers and best wishes to sorors who have received recent honors: Ina Dorman and Dorothy Johnson. Several sorors are entering graduate programs: Sorors Belissa and Celese Rayford. Sorors Keisha English and Lisa McNeil have completed graduate school. Many sorors have family graduates.
Graduate Advisor: Soror Sharon Savage reported three members graduating. Kappa X i participated in Greek Week.
Ivy Leaf Reporter: Soror Annette Craighead had no report at this time.
Program: Although Soror Kaweeda was absent, Soror Jackie asked each soror to check the directory and each soror was permitted to correct any necessary changes. They have been noted on the green copy.
AKA Connections: Soror Willa announced meeting will be held at her house on Wednesday, June 14 at 6:30 P.M. She also thanked Soror Ina for sitting on Connections at Regional.
Census 2000: Soror Ina reported they are now in phase 3 which is the most important - the going from door to door. This will continue until July. By December 31, all must be on President’s desk. May 22 at 9:30 A.M. there will be a Press Conference at the E.O.B.; all are invited.
Membership: Soror Carolyn reported Committtee met to schedule Retreat for August 11-13, at Primm Valley Resort. Further information will be given at June meeting. Nine candidates are scheduled for In-Take. Affirmation has been received from all of them; still waiting for a couple of transcripts. First Intake Workshop is scheduled for June meeting. Another Intake Workshop will be held at September meeting. Intake is scheduled for last week-end in September. Sorors must attend one of the workshops to participate in Intake Week-end.
Ways and Means: Basileus begged for a Chair for this valuable position. Soror Tamela Campbell volunteered to Chair Committee. Soror Patti reported on Juneteenth fundraiser which will be held in conjunction with the Community Health Center’s annual health fair celebration, Saturday, June 17, from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. at the Nucleus Plaza. Volunteers are needed to put food in containers for purchasers. Sign-up sheet was circulated for sorors.
Motion by Soror Patti that we receive $425.00 for supplies and rental fee of table. Seconded by Soror Willa. All in favor.
Scholarship: In the absence of Soror Edna, the report was presented by Soror Amanda. Kappa
Y '< Psi-donated $500.00 to the Committee. Eighteen applicant were reviewed and Committee voted to award six $500., and two $750. Scholarships. Total amount awarded was $4,500. in 2000. All high schools have been notified. Reception to be held May 20, at 3 P.M. Speaker will be Leon Pearson. Next meeting of this committee is scheduled for June 10, at 1 P.M. at Soror Edna’s home.
Motion that this report be accepted; seconded by Soror Belissa. Approved.
Standards: In the absence of Soror Jacqueline Brown, the mid year report will be done at the next meeting.
AKA Teens: Soror Belissa acknowledged no report for this meeting.
Health/NBLIC: Soror Dorothy reported the April 15 Conference was a success. Full report on file. Soror Jackie reported we did get recognition at Regional for exhibit, and received a certificate.
Economics: Soror Billie reported that $13,559.59 was spent for Black Dollar Days.
Social Welfare: Soror Billie reported Soror Shirley Carroll was recognized for her work On Track, and presented with a plaque. Soror Billie read a Mother’s Day tribute for all sorors.
On Track. Soror Shirley had no formal report today. She thanked the sorors who contributed $10. Each for Gift Cards. She urged sorors to please try to come to H. P. Fitzgerald for Cotillion on May 22.
National Panhellenic: No report.
Regional Conference Reports: Soror Jackie asked delegates to give brief report, and stated full report would be included in June Newsletter. Those reporting were Sorors Jackie, Billie, Carolyn, Marian, Amanda, and Ouida. Soror Jackie reported that Time and Place has designated Far Western Region as host for 2012 Boule. Las Vegas and San Francisco are being considered. At Regional next year it will be discussed and voted upon.
Intermountain Cluster 2000: Co-Chairs for this event, October 21,2000, will be Sorors LaVonne and Shirley Carroll.

Theta Theta Omega Chapter Meeting September 9, 2000
The meeting was called to order by Basileus Jackie hall at 3:00 at the St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. Connections Chairman Soror Willa White introduced the guest speaker Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. The Congresswoman spoke about the issues of education, seniors, women's health, and hate crimes legislation. At 3:45, Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation and the Pledge was recited.
OFFICER REPORTS
GRAMMATEUS - The minutes from the June chapter meeting were read and accepted.
TAMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn reported the following balances: Operating account - Fundraising account -

Soror Carolyn also submitted a report of debits and deposits to the Operating and Fundraising accounts from January 2000 through September 2000.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Marian submitted an amended report for the May Chapter meeting reflecting that a total ofWW® was collected. Other reports indicated that was collected at the June Chapter meeting, ^SSXJfciwas
collected in July and August, and was collected in September. All monies were turned over to the Tamiouchous for
deposit.
EPISTOLEUS - A thank you card from Soror Billie was received.
HODEGOS - The following guests were introduced by Soror Billie; Soror Michelle Little, Soror Faye Green (mother of Soror Kaweeda Adams), Soror Verna Ford (transferring to TTO), Soror Barbara McCants-Hill (reactivating with TTO), Soror Wilisha Moore (transferring to TTO from Kappa Xi). Birthday and anniversary wishes for July, August and September were extended. Congratulations to expectant sorors Domini, Roslyn and Shimice. Soror Kechia English, the mother of Soror Pamela Riley and the mother of Soror Erma Brooks are all on the mend. Congratulations to Soror Milicent Dilworth for her job promotion and Soror Dorothy Johnson for her presentation at a Health Council meeting.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that an article about Soror Ina Dorman appeared in the last issue of the Ivy Leaf for being named Social Worker of the Year. An article was also submitted about Soror Shirley and the ON TRACK program, but it has not been published yet. The Public Relations Committee will look into developing a web site in 2001 to increase the image of Alpha Kappa Alpha in Las Vegas.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Kaweeda reported that the Program Committee met prior to the Chapter meeting to discuss the 2001 calendar. She developed a form for chairman to use to schedule committee meetings so that these dates can be included on the Sorority calendar. Please submit these at the October Chapter meeting. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 25, 2000 at 7:00 at Soror Kaweeda's.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Carolyn reported that the Membership Committee met on September 5, 2000 at the home of Soror Lavonne to finalize MIP plans. A skit and out "20 Pearls" will be presented during the weekend. Invitations and schedules will be mailed to sorors. A motion was made by Soror Carolyn that sorors attending MIP pay $20.00 for meals on Friday and Saturday. Second by Soror Frances. A raised hand vote was taken. 33 in favor. 2 opposed. The motion carried. Soror Carolyn gave a final report on the Retreat.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Tamela shared research materials she's used in preparation for the Mardi Gras Ball and requested more committee members. 400 guests are expected. She has spoken to people at the Mirage, Bellagio, and PrimaDonna but a location has not been secured to date. Information will be shared at the September 20 Executive Committee Meeting.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Edna reported that the Scholarship Committee met twice over the summer to discuss mission

statement, criteria, and goals. A survey was developed and sent to sorors for input. The only change in the criteria for scholarship suggested in the survey was raising the GPA from 2.5 to 3.0. A motion was made by Soror Edna to accept her report including the change in the GPA requirement. Second by Soror Wiila. A discussion was held. Some sorors felt that raising the GPA requirement would exclude some viable candidates. The motion failed.
STANDARDS - Soror Jacki Brown shared the results from the midyear assessment. The end-of-year assessment will be conducted in November and the results shared in December.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS
AKATeens - Soror Belisa reported that the AKATeens met this afternoon. A tea is scheduled for Saturday, September 16 from 11:00-1:00. Criteria for membership was developed. Over 125 applications have been distributed. The AKATeens met over the summer and prepared the menu, program and meeting agenda for the tea. Soror Belisa is proud of their efforts and requested that sorors join the committee.
ECONOMICS - Soror Billie reported that the committee will meet on September 18 at 7:00 at her house. The Economics Community Workshop is set for December 9.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Billie distributed gifts of gold Texas charms to Boule attendees from the Texas chapter. She also gave each member a candybar with TTO information printed on the wrappers.
ON TRACK - Soror Shirley reported on the successes of last year and her goals for this year which are 1) reading to students throughout the year, 2) doubling the number of TTO members who participate, and 3) increased emphasis on after school tutoring. The new principal of Fitzgerald, Dr. Yvonne Walker, is an AKA and excited about working with TTO. A School-to- Work grant of $10,400 has been received by the school.
CLUSTER - The Inter-mountain Cluster will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 8:00 to 5:00 at the Golden Nugget. The cost is $40.00 for graduates and $30.00 for undergraduates. The next Cluster committee meetings are scheduled for September 20 at 8:00 at Soror LaVonne's house and October 12 at 6:00 in Room 18 of North 9th Street.
FOUNDERS' DAY - The committee will meet on October 5, 2000 at Soror Billie's house.
AKA COAT DAY - Coats will be collected on September 29 - October 1, October 7, and October 18 for distribution on October 27 to Shade Tree, MASH Village and the Women's Development Center. The Committee's goal is to donate at least 200 coats.
OLD BUSINESS
1)
Soror Kaweeda shared highlights of the Dallas Boule complete with a Power Point presentation of photos from various events.
NEW BUSINESS
1)
Soror Shawnae has agreed to chair the ThanksgMng Baskets committee.

End of year reports are due to Soror Jackie Hall by the December Chapter Meeting.

EPISTOLEUS - A letter was received from the National Panhellenic Council. There is a meeting on September 27th. Sorors Virginia and Tna will be notified. The NPC is collecting underwear and socks for students at Booker Elementary School to be presented on October 25th at the WLV Library. Theta Theta Omega will purchase underwear and socks for girls. The Westside Credit Union statement was received and an MIP luncheon payment from Soror Greta Mills.
HODEGOS - No report
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Kappa Xi meets the second and fourth Sunday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Moyer Student Union. The first official meeting was held on Sunday, September 10. There is a problem with Basileus, Soror Renata. A meeting was scheduled for her home, but she was not there. A letter was submitted to Soror Renata asking her to contact Soror Sharon by September 8 or the Anti-basileus, Soror Simone, would assume her duties. Soror Sharon has not spoken to Soror Renata since August 25th. Soror Simone is the acting Basileus. Soror Jackie Hall will sit in on Kappa X meetings in Soror Sharon's absence. Workshops will be held at each of their meetings. Rush is scheduled for October 15, and MIP is scheduled for November 10-12. Details will be shared at the October chapter meeting. Participation in Break the Ice Week will include service programs, forums, applications for scholarship, and a stepshow.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Kaweeda reported that 2001 committee sign-ups will be circulated at the October meeting along with directory updates.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Carolyn reported that Soror Wilhemina Lee is planning the MIP luncheon. There are 53 sorors planning to attend with two guests from Los Angeles. Thirteen rooms have been booked at the hotel and the meeting room is set for sixty to attend MIP. Letters of invitation and the schedule of events have been mailed to all financial sorors.

WAYS AND MEANS - New chairmen have been appointed. Soror Marian contacted the Rio and distributed copies of the proposed budget. "The contract and budget were renewed and discussed. Sorors will be asked to sell two tickets at $65.00 each and a full page ad or the equivalent at the cost of $100.00 for a total of $230.00. Souvenir journal prices were discussed. There was a suggestion to have a picture of the full sorority on the cover. Proposals for Mardi Gras will be presented at the October chapter meeting. Folders for souvenir journal sales will be prepared for each soror. Sample invitations were shared. Sending invitations to other organizations has not generated ticket sales in the past. Soror Marian will give invitations to sorors who request them. The committee will meet before the October chapter meeting.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Edna has received requests for four scholarships.

SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS
AKATeens - No report
ECONOMICS - Soror Billie reported that the committee met on September 18 at 7:00 at her house. The Economics Community Workshop is set for December 9th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at CCSN West Charleston campus. Proposed topics and speakers were shared. Soror Dr. Rose Coker will be the featured speaker. The committee will meet again on October 2 at Soror Billie's house.
HOSPITALITY - No report
ON TRACK - Soror Shirley will not be at the October meeting, but the principal of Fitzgerald Elementary School, Soror Yvonne Walker has been invited to attend. Sign-ups for volunteers will be at MIP. The scrapbook from the students will be displayed at MIP, Cluster, and the chapter meeting.
CLUSTER - The Inter-mountain Cluster budget was shared. The Golden Nugget is concerned that no room reservations have been made yet. The chapter is responsible for making arrangements and paying for the regional director.
FOUNDERS' DAY - The committee will meet on October 5, 2000 at 7:00 at Soror Billie's house.
AKA COAT DAY - Coats will be distributed on October 27 at various shelters.
THANKSGIVING BASKETS - There will be a meeting on September 23 at 2:00 at Soror Shawnae's house. The base is having a truckload sale. The budget will be revewed and a check will be issued to Soror Shawnae.
NEW BUSINESS
1)
Fitzgerald Elementary School will be a Kids Voting site. The chapter will need 8 volunteers to man the polling place on Election Day, November 7, 2000.
2)
Soror Jackie has developed two Theta Theta Omega brochures; one for reactivating and transferring sorors and one for the general public. These will be printed after the November elections so they will be good for two years.
3)
Soror Jackie developed a checklist for visiting and reactivating sorors to make them feel more welcome. The checklist includes the hodegos form, reactivation brochure, notecard, and a newsletter the month following their visit.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1)
Sorors LaVonne, Willa, and Belisa are all registrars.
2)
Jesse Jackson will be at Second Baptist on Sunday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. Soror Jackie was asked to email all sorors to let them know.

Soror Carolyn distributed copies of the 2001 proposed budget for member reMew. A question was asked about what happens to the fundraising balance from this year. Soror Carolyn explained that we keep a balanceOfiSOdfcon hand. Soror Jackie Hall asked sorors to review the proposed budget and send any suggested changes/additions to Soror Carolyn in writing.
Soror Carolyn told members that at Boule sorors were asked to pay with their dues for the Constitution and Bylaws
and Manual of Standard Procedures.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Marian reported that was collected at the September Chapter meeting and
was collected during Membership Intake Process. All monies were turned over to the Tamiochous for deposit.
EPISTOLEUS - Items received were an mutation to an event for Judge Johnnie Rawlinson and a thank you letter from Shelley Berkley.
HODEGOS - Soror Billie thanked the hostesses for the meeting. Birthday and anniversary wishes for October were extended. The newest members of Theta Theta Omega were welcomed. Soror Maxine Randolph is reactivating and Soror Wilisha Moore is transferring from Kappa X. Congratulations to Sorors Ouida, Marian, Jackie Hall, and Carolyn for their appointments to Far Western Regional Committees. Congratulations were also extended to Soror Tanya Flanagan for her new position as MGM Mirage's Public Relations Manager. Soror Billie provided sorors with directory updates.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Kappa X meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. They participated in the NPHC "Break the Ice Week" and other student organization activities on campus. There are currently three active members and Soror Simone Tyree is acting Basileus. Soror Sharon requested assistance and support from Theta Theta Omega. Soror Sharon thanked Sorors Billie, Dawn Barnes, Ethel, and Quin for sponsoring undergraduates for Cluster. Kappa X hosted a health workshop entitled "Sister 2 Sister". They have also created a chapter newsletter and website. They did not want to conduct MIP but have been directed by the Regional Director to do so. It is scheduled for Sunday, October 15 at 6:00 pm. Soror Sharon acknowledged Soror Ashley Tisdale for making the Dean's List in the Spring.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the article submitted about Soror Shirley and the ON TRACK program has not been published. The Ivy Leaf office is in disarray due to the resignation of the previous Ivy Leaf editors. The Public Relations Committee is currently working on publicity for the Mardi Gras Ball and is ready to help with the Economic Seminar. Soror Annette continues to publish monthly meetings in the Review-Journal. The Committee will meet on November 4th one hour before the Chapter Meeting.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Kaweeda requested 2001 dates for committee meetings so they can be added to the program book calendar.

MEMBERSHIP - Soror Carolyn thanked sorors for their hard work during the Membership Intake Process. The Committee is now working on the Christmas party and requested a location.
WAYS AND MEANS - Mardi Gras will be on February 3, 2001 at the Rio. Sorors Amanda and Marian are co-chairs.
Spreadsheets were distributed detailing projected costs. Committee sign-ups and calendars outlining tum-in dates were also distributed. Soror Kaweeda will chair the souvenir booklet committee. Information packets were distributed. The next Ways and Means Committee meeting is scheduled for November 2 at Soror Billie's office.
Motion by Soror Marian to accept the report. Motion passed.

CONNECTIONS - Soror Quin distributed copies of President Clinton's remarks to the Congressional Black Caucus and shared highlights of her visit to Washington, DC.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS
AKATeens - Soror Belisa reported that there are over 25 new members and requested assistance from sorors with this committee.
HEALTH/NBLIC - Soror Dorothy Johnson reported that they will not receive a $10,000 grant promised by the CDC and are seeking funding from else where. During July, a form requesting 501-C status was filed with the Internal Revenue Service. In September, Soror Dorothy attended a health workshop in Hawaii and met Soror Dr. Marion E. Primas from MD.
ECONOMICS - Soror Billie reported that the committee met on September 18th to develop the schedule for the Economics Community Workshop on December 9th.
Motion by Soror Billie that Theta Theta Omega approve a $250.00 expenditure for the second annual economics seminar. Motion passed. Omega Psi Phi is responsible for an additional $250.00. The committee will meet again on October 18th, at Soror Billie's office.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Billie welcomed Soror Dr. Yvonne Walker, principal of Fitzgerald Elementary School. Soror Yvonne plans to become financial and active and invited sorors to visit the school anytime.
ON TRACK - Sorors Sandra Stewart-Bass and Terri Polite introduced the A-PAL reading buddy program and requested that sorors sign-up to participate. Soror Billie requested that sorors sign-up to work an hour at the polling site for Kids Voting on November 7th at Fitzgerald.
CLUSTER - Soror Carolyn reported that registration materials have been mailed to all Inter-mountain Cluster members. To date, 57 sorors have registered. Sorors are needed to sene as hostesses, recorders, and timekeepers for workshops. Signup sheets were circulated for volunteers and entertainment.
FOUNDERS' DAY - The committee met on October 5, 2000. Founders' Day is scheduled for March 24, 2001 at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. Tickets will cost $30.00 each and each soror will be assessed two tickets. Four tickets (more if requested) will be distributed to each soror at 2:00 prior to the November Chapter meeting. The next committee meeting is scheduled for November 2nd, 6:30 at Soror Billie's office. Motion by Soror Billie to accept the report as read including the assessment and expenses. Motion passed.
AKA COAT DAY - Coats will be distributed on October 27 to Shade Tree, MASH Village and the Women's Development Center. Soror Ina would be happy to pick up coats from sorors wanting to donate. Soror Belisa will ask the AKATeens to place collection boxes at schools. Soror Ina requested that sorors who work at schools donate from lost and found. She shared the plaque received from the census.
THANKSGIVING BASKETS - Soror Shawnae reported that the committee met on September 23 to discuss families, menus, and costs. Baskets will be prepared on November 17th at Soror Jackie Hall's house and delivered on November 18th. Motion

PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Marian reported thaW^FlWwas collected at the October Chapter meeting and turned over to the Tamiochous for deposit. A discussion was held about bounced checks. A statement will be added to the Manual of Standard Procedures that any soror who has two or more returned checks will have to pay with cash or a money order.

HODEGOS - Soror Billie gave the names of sorors who visited the October Chapter Meeting. Birthdays and anniversaries for the month were read.

She's checked on a perpetual plaque for the King and Queen. Each couple will keep the plaque for the year. Soror Amanda is researching a band and will ha\e a name at the Chapter meeting.
SCHOLARSHIP - One more scholarship has been sent for a total of four.
STANDARDS - The end of year assessment will be held at the November Chapter meeting.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida will give a report at Cluster. She is working on a trip to Reno for February. There is a reception next Thursday night for Congressman John Lewis. Soror Lavonne will get more information. They are requesting to have us as sponsors. O\er 17,000 people have been registered to vote. Several activities will be taking place to secure the Nevada electoral votes for the Democrats. Soror Ouida suggested that each soror take a senior citizen to the polls.

"AKA's on Parade" will consist of the new sorors doing their presentation from MIP. Sorors Kaweeda and Jacki will do "Who Wants to be an AKA?". A presentation of a proclamation and plaque from the city declaring it AKA Cluster Day will be made to Soror Diana.
FOUNDERS' DAY - The committee will meet on November 2 at 6:30 at Soror Billie's office. All information from the October Chapter meeting still stands. Founders' Day will be held on March 24. Tickets are $30.00. The deposit for the building is needed.

Nominations - The vote will be held at the November Chapter meeting. The Nominating Committee has not addressed the qualifications of all nominees to date. The Nominating Committee can vote to suspend the By-laws for this election since all nominees were not certified prior to Norember. A notice would need to be sent to all sorors if it's necessary according to Robert's Rules of Order. A form will be included in the Manual of Standard Procedures for sorors running for office.
NEW BUSINESS

A suggestion was made to change the time of our Chapter meetings because they are interfering with Mass at the church. A change to 1:00 or 2:00 will be brought up at the Chapter meeting.

We need to revew the Constitution and By-laws with all members at the beginning of the year so everyone knows what's in them.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Kappa X held rush on October 15. There are two prospective candidates. Membership Intake will be held November 10-12 at the home of Soror Kaweeda. A soror on withdrawal of privileges will be allowed to attend MIP but may not participate in any ceremonies. Kappa X participated in a voter registration activity and donated to Kappa Alpha Psi's scholarship. They decorated a box for the collection ofcoats for AKA Coat Day. Soror Sharon thanked graduate sorors who sponsored Kappa X members for Cluster. Kappa X received a Certificate of Excellence in recognition of exemplary programs.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that press releases have been sent regarding the Economics Seminar. Press releases for Founders' Day will go out on February 2, 2001. Sorors Annette and Sharon are developing a list of community organizations and contact people for sending publicity. Soror Annette hopes to complete the Public Relations album for 2000 by the end of December.

PROGRAM - Committee, address corrections, and hostess sign-ups were requested at the conclusion of the meeting. The next Program Committee meeting is scheduled for November 30 at 6:00 at Soror Billie's office.

WAYS AND MEANS - Mardi Gras tickets were distributed before and after the meeting. Committee sign-ups were held at the end of the meeting. Ballots for King and Queen will be distributed at the December meeting. The deposit for the room has been paid. A sorority picture will be taken for the souvenir booklet. It was suggested that sorors wear black with pearls.

SCHOLARSHIP - Scholarship applications and accompanying materials have been sent to the Guidance Office of the Clark County School District. Criteria for scholarships remains the same as last year. The application deadline is March 31, 2001.
STANDARDS - The end of year assessment was distributed. Results will be presented at the December meeting. Volunteer sheets are also due at the December meeting.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Celese will arrange for the African Storytellers to perform at Fitzgerald during December and February. Soror Irma will coordinate Nevada Reading Week volunteers. The committee will focus on an Arts and Humanities Camp during the month of May. Sorors with expertise in art are asked to participate.

ON TRACK - Soror Shirley circulated a calendar for volunteers to donate at least an hour to the students of Fitzgerald Elementary. Soror Dr. Yvonne Walker has volunteered to pick up any soror who needs transportation to the school. ON TRACK students are participating in a book fair this month. The ON TRACK and the Arts and Humanities committees will work with Fitzgerald on a float for the Martin Luther King, Jr. parade. AKATeens are also invted to participate.
CLUSTER - Soror Lavonne gave a final report for the 2000 Intermountain Cluster which included expenses and thank you's to participants.

Sorors Jackie and Kaweeda were presented with gifts fortheir assistance. The officers are Basileus - Soror Ashley Tisdale, Anti-Basileus - Soror Simone Tyree, Grammateus - Soror Natalie Ward, and Tamiochous - Soror Chrystal Harris. Kappa Xi participated in the following activities; sponsored a family for Thanksgiving (Black Family), promoted the "Money Matters" workshop (Economics), and had an art display in the student union (Arts). They are planning an activity for Buckle Up Month and are still in need of a school for ON TRACK.
Congratulations extended to Soror Katrina Dunn who has accepted an internship at Walt Disney World. Soror Sharon attends the Greek Advisor's Council meetings and reports that Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Psi Phi are currently on probation and down to two members each.

PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Marian reported that WJTZttWwas collected at the November chapter meeting and turned over to the Tamiochous. The books will be turned over to the new Pecunious Grammateus at the end of January. Receipts for dues payments will be distributed and need to be kept as proof of payment. All materials will be mailed at the January Executive Committee meeting. After that, a ten percent fee must be added to dues payments. Any soror with outstanding debts may not pay 2001 dues until these are cleared.
EPISTOLEUS - Items received were 1) a letter about the West Las Vegas Ubrary's 6th annual Shoes for Children, 2) book discussions at the WLV Library the 4th Tuesday of each month, 3) the Chapter report booklet, and 4) the Leadership manual.
HODEGOS - Soror Billie introduced visiting Soror Jacqueline Shropshire who plans to transfer to Theta Theta Omega. December birthdays and anniversaries were acknowledged. IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that she has updated the chapter address and added the name of the new Basileus with the Ivy Leaf office. She has submitted an article and picture for ON TRACK. Meeting dates have been published monthly in the Review-Journal and attracted many visiting sorors. The Public Relations Album and Sorority Website will be completed in January.

Members will meet at 10:00 a.m. on January 6, 2001 at Bob Miller Middle School to take the Sorority picture for the souvenir booklet cover. Sorors are asked to wear black dresses and pearls.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Edna reported that a total of $3,750.00 was given to seven recipients. She thanked her committee for their participation.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Jacki distributed results of the end-of-year assessment to members present. Sorors were asked to email any events that addressed our chapter goals for inclusion in the end-of-year report. The Standards committee will meet on Wednesday, December 6 to complete this report. Sorors were asked to turn in volunteer logs for 2000.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that the committee met on November 30 to discuss a visit to the state capital. Members will attend the Grassroots Day in March on a Thursday and Friday. Travel arrangements are being researched. Sorors are asked to wear pink and green. A list of issues will be shared and a legislator may be taken to lunch.

Be meeting was called to order by Basileus Jackie Hall at 3:00 at the St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. Connections airman Soror Willa White introduced the guest speaker Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. The Congresswoman spoke about the issues of education, seniors, women's health, and hate crimes legislation. At 3:45, Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation and the Pledge was recited.

GRAMMATEUS - The minutes from the June chapter meeting were read and accepted.

collected in July and August, and WW® was collected in September. All monies were turned over to the Tamiouchous for deposit.

HODEGOS - The following guests were introduced by Soror Billie; Soror Michelle Little, Soror Faye Green (mother of Soror Kaweeda Adams), Soror Verna Ford (transferring to TTO), Soror Barbara McCants-Hill (reactivating with TTO), Soror Wilisha Moore (transferring to TTO from Kappa X). Birthday and anniversary wishes for July, August and September were extended. Congratulations to expectant sorors Domini, Roslyn and Shirnice. Soror Kechia English, the mother of Soror Pamela Riley and the mother of Soror Erma Brooks are all on the mend. Congratulations to Soror Milicent Dilworth for her job promotion and Soror Dorothy Johnson for her presentation at a Health Council meeting.
fer LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that an article about Soror Ina Dorman appeared in the last issue of the Ivy Waf for being named Social Worker of the Year. An article was also submitted about Soror Shirley and the ON TRACK program, but it has not been published yet. The Public Relations Committee will look into developing a web site in 2001 to increase the image of Alpha Kappa Alpha in Las Vegas.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Kaweeda reported that the Program Committee met prior to the Chapter meeting to discuss the 2001 calendar. She developed a form for chairman to use to schedule committee meetings so that these dates can be included on the Sorority calendar. Please submit these at the October Chapter meeting. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 25, 2000 at 7:00 at Soror Kaweeda's.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Carolyn reported that the Membership Committee met on September 5, 2000 at the home of Soror Lavonne to finalize MIP plans. A skit and out "20 Pearls" will be presented during the weekend. Invitations and schedules will be mailed to sorors. A motion was made by Soror Carolyn that sorors attending MIP pay $20.00 for meals on Friday and Saturday. Second by Soror Frances. A raised hand vote was taken. 33 in favor. 2 opposed. The motion carried. Soror Carolyn gave a final report on the Retreat.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Tamela shared research materials she's used in preparation for the Mardi Gras Ball and requested more committee members. 400 guests are expected. She has spoken to people at the Mirage, Bellagio, and PrimaDonna but a location has not been secured to date. Information will be shared at the September 20 Executive Committee Meeting.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Edna reported that the Scholarship Committee met twice over the summer to discuss mission statement, criteria, and goals. A survey was developed and sent to sorors for input. The only change in the criteria for Bholarship suggested in the survey was raising the GPA from 2.5 to 3.0. A motion was made by Soror Edna to accept her k>rt including the change in the GPA requirement. Second by Soror Willa. A discussion was held. Some sorors felt that raising the GPA requirement would exclude some viable candidates. The motion failed.

STANDARDS - Soror Jacki Brown shared the results from the midyear assessment. The end-of-year assessment will be conducted in November and the results shared in December.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS
AKATeens - Soror Belisa reported that the AKATeens met this afternoon. A tea is scheduled for Saturday, September 16 from 11:00-1:00. Criteria for membership was developed. Over 125 applications have been distributed. The AKATeens met over the summer and prepared the menu, program and meeting agenda for the tea. Soror Belisa is proud of their efforts and requested that sorors join the committee.
ECONOMICS - Soror Billie reported that the committee will meet on September 18 at 7:00 at her house. The Economics Community Workshop is set for December 9.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Billie distributed gifts of gold Texas charms to Boule attendees from the Texas chapter. She also aave each member a candybar with TTO information printed on the wrappers.
ON TRACK - Soror Shirley reported on the successes of last year and her goals for this year which are 1) reading to students throughout the year, 2) doubling the number of TTO members who participate, and 3) increased emphasis on after school tutoring. The new principal of Fitzgerald, Dr. Yvonne Walker, is an AKA and excited about working with TTO. A School-to- Work grant of $10,400 has been received by the school.
CLUSTER - The Inter-mountain Cluster will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 8:00 to 5:00 at the Golden Nugget. The cost is $40.00 for graduates and $30.00 for undergraduates. The next Cluster committee meetings are scheduled for September 20 at 8:00 at Soror LaVonne's house and October 12 at 6:00 in Room 18 of North 9th Street.
FOUNDERS' DAY - The committee will meet on October 5, 2000 at Soror Billie's house.
WA COAT DAY - Coats will be collected on September 29 - October 1, October 7, and October 18 for distribution on October 27 to Shade Tree, MASH Village and the Women's Development Center. The Committee's goal is to donate at least 200 coats.

Meeting was held on November 2, 2000 at North Area Service Center. In attendance were. Annette Craighead, Andre Denson, and Billie Rayford. Soror Annette mailed press releases to local newspapers, radio and television stations. Speakers for Money Smart Youth and Tax Tips sessions were confirmed. Soror Lavonne Lewis and Omega Man Andre Denson will tape the Lillian McMorris Show on November 17, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. Next meeting date is November 30 at 6:30 p.m. at North Area Service Center.
FOUNDERS DAY REPORT -Meeting was held on November 2, 2000 at North Area Service Center. In attendance were Sorors Jackie Hall, Frances Perry, Kaweeda Adams, Ethel Archibald, Quin Rivers, Ouida Brown, Diana Stith, Dawn Barnes, Wilhelmina Lee, Annette Craighead, Barbara Kirkland and Billie Rayford. Sub-committee reports were presented on Founders Day speaker, program format, tickets, entertainment, and technology presentation. Soror Craighead will print the tickets. Sorors Archibald, Rivers, and Rayford will distribute the tickets at the December 3rd meeting. Next meeting date: Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Area Service Center.
KIDS VOTING 2000 PROJECT -On November 7, 2000 at H. P. Fitzgerald Elementary School, four hundred fifty-five (455) students cast their ballots in the Kids Voting 2000 Project. Twenty- two members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority joined the 500+ volunteers who participated in the Kids Voting project in Clark County. Fitzgerald was the polling site adopted by Theta Theta Omega Chapter. Thank you to Soror Yvonne Walker, Principal of Fitzgerald and the fine staff at the school for their assistance and guidance.
