The 71st Far Western Regional Conference was held May 4-7, 2000 in Anaheim, C.A. at the WestCoast Anaheim Hotel.
Thursday May 4, 2000
I attended two classes required for the Leadership Development Institute. The first class was entitled Mission and Vision. This class was taught by Far Western Regional Director elect Soror Diana G. Shipley. She emphasized the importance of all chapters having a mission statement and putting that mission statement in writing. When a chapter writes its mission statements it should be S.M.A.R.T. (short, manageable, attainable, realistic, and timely). Soror Shipley defined Vision for us as what you believe can happen! Vision is not just a dream. It is a dream tempered with a deep understanding of what is possible.
The second class was entitled Communications and Peoples Skills. Soror Regina Glenn taught this workshop. We began by introducing ourselves and by completing an exercise which was a self-assessment test which taught us what kind of person we were. It assessed a description of our styles. There are four styles: Style 1- Action, Style 2-Process, Style 3-People and Style-4 is Idea. I found out that I am a Process person, which are people who are value oriented. People of this style like facts, organizing, and structuring. We discussed coping with other communication styles. We did an exercise on using conflict as a tool.
Friday May 5, 2000
We began our morning by attending the first plenary session. During this session Soror Grace Strauther identified our Regional Goals which are on track, target programming, leadership training, EAF, financial responsibility, and demonstrating sisterlyness. Soror Grace also announced the Leadership fellow for 2000: Soror Courtney Williams of Sacramento State University.
We received our State of the Sorority Address from Soror Norma S. White.
We received our nominating committee report and it disclosed that Soror Amisha Memette of Beta Alpha Chapter is running for the office of Second Supreme Basileus at Boule.
The candidate for Far Western Regional Director Soror Diana Shipley and candidate for Far Western Regional Representative to the nominating committee Soror Latisha Knighton Harper gave their campaign speeches.
The Rededication ceremony was scheduled to be conducted by Soror Mary Shy Scott the 23 Supreme Basileus; however, do an injury that Soror Mary suffered she was unable to attend, so Soror Linda White, First Supreme Basileus conducted the ceremony in her place.
The first plenary session was followed by the Public luncheon, which was well attended. We went into the second plenary session following the public luncheon.
During the second plenary session Soror Grace discussed the budget and finance report for the region. She submitted a handout outlining the budget and expenses. She discussed some items, which will have to be voted on by the Boule delegates during Boule. These items included a provision which require that for membership initiation into the Graduate chapter that a candidate would have to have had a cumulative college G.P.A. of C+ or have obtained a Graduate level degree. We will also vote on an amendment, which would state that in order for a Soror to posses a leadership position for a national office, that she would have to have attended leadership training.
Saturday May 6, 2000
The delegates began their morning by voting for the candidates for the offices in the Far Western Region. Following the voting I attended my final Leadership Development Institute class, which was, entitled Team Building.
Soror Lavem Tarkington taught the Team Building class. She began the class by assigning a project to select Soror to make a decision for as a group on a controversial issue in front of the class. Two Sorors from Theta Theta Omega were involved with this process. Soror Amanda R. McWilliams and Soror Billie Rayford. Soror Lavem defined Team as a group of people, of any size called together for the express purpose of helping you get what you want.
Following the leadership class myself, Soror Ouida Brown and Soror Jacki Brown attended a workshop on Conflict Resolution taught by Soror Carrie Crum. During this workshop we participated in a warm-up exercises. We discussed vocabulary that we should be familiar with ad discussed the roots of conflict and how to handle it.
Following this workshop was the Undergraduate Luncheon.
Followed by the third plenary session.
The third plenary session was very informative. The 24th Supreme Basileus spoke Soror Eva L. Evans on the Balanced Woman Principles: 1.) Remember the sacred, 2.) Self- Care (nurturing mind, body and spirit), 3.) Creating Solid Balance relationships, 4.) Balances career and home, 5.) Financial Security, 6.) Live your personal vision by relaxing and being yourself.
The registration Committee reported that there were 653 Sorors in attendance for the conference and 199 delegates. It was announced that the Boule hospitality luncheon would be held at the Adams Mark hotel on July 9th, 10th and 12th. It was announced that a chapter our size would be assessed $300.00 for Boule.
Several issues were discussed but the issue which most greatly affects our chapter is that Las Vegas is being considered as a possible location for the 2012 Boule.
Overall the conference was extremely well organized and well planned. I truly enjoyed representing Theta Theta Omega as a Delegate at the 71st Far Western Regional Conference 2000. It was an enjoyable experience.

First Plenary Session
The 20th Supreme Basileus, Soror Barbara K. Phillips set the tone for the conference with beautiful reflections and the Regional Conference choir sang The Wild Wild West Theme song. There was no going back at that point and the Regional Director, Soror Grace Strauther sailed forward with the first Plenary Session. The registration committee chairman reported that there were 450 sorors present. There are 41°Graduate chapters and 28 undergraduate chapters in the Far Western Region. There are 1, 951 Graduate Sorors and 247 undergraduate Sorors in the region with a total of 2198 Sorors in the Far Western Region. The pass word is Phi Delta Omega. There were 78 people signed up for the Leadership Institute at Region Conference. We are the first region to have the institute in place or to start the training process. Sorors Billie Rayford, Jackie Hall, and Ouida Brown attended Leadership Development Training last July in Orlando, Florida and received certificates. During Regional Conference, the following Sorors received certificates for attending Leadership Development Institute: Sorors Billie Rayford, Jackie Hall, Amanda McWilliams, Ouida Brown, and Jackie Hall. Soror Norma White, 25th Supreme Basileus, gave the state of the sorority report. Sorors the sorority are now in the black and the bills have been paid for the last Boule. Soror Norma made the hard decisions about mass meetings and declared that reports should be sent over the internet and saved the sorority thousands and thousands of dollars.
Second Plenary Session
Soror Larzette Hale, 17th Supreme Basileus, gave an inspiring meditation to set the tone for the second Plenary Session. The Nominating committee reported that one person had submitted forms for Regional Director - Diana Shipley, Epsilon Xi Omega Chapter from San Diego, California. Soror Knighton was nominated for Far Western Region representative for the International Nominating Committee. There were no nominations from the floor. The AKA Program committee reported that the Far Western Region was on target with the national program. Theta Theta Omega was recognized for getting its reports in on time and received certificates for both program and financial reports. The Membership Presentation included a parade for reactivation and Soror Billie participated due to her reactivation of Sorors in our chapter.
Third Plenary Session
Soror Eva Evans, 24th Supreme Basileus, gave the meditation to set the tone for the third plenary session. The following committee reports were made:
• Boule Hospitality/Luncheon - Thirty-one chapters have paid their Boule assessments. Boule assessments depending on the size of the chapter is $300 or $350 for graduate
chapters. The theme for the Regional Conference-Boule Luncheon is Embracing our Amazing Grace. $12,753.12 is in the Regional account expenses for the conference is estimated at $12, 295.
Recommendations Committee - No Report Soror Norma White, 25th Supreme Basileus, submitted a resolution - Soror Larzette Hale s daughter Judge Gena Hale from Utah was recognized as president of National Female Judges Association. Resolutions Committee — There were three — 1. Support for the Law Enforcement Integrity Act 2. Congratulations in support for Soror Grace and 3. Courtesy to the Host Chapter.
Time and Place Committee
Boule 2000 Dallas, Texas; 2002 Orlando, Florida; 2004 Nashville, Tennessee; 2006 Detroit, Michigan ; 2008 Washington D.C.; 2010 Mid Western Region; 2012 Far Western Region (Las Vegas or San Francisco, California ?);
Regional Conference 2001 Alpha Mu Omega, Oakland, California; 2002 Anchorage Alaska;
Committee asked the region to look at the possibility of an exploratory committee to look as the possibility of assigning regional by cluster area the motion passed.

Election Committee - 200 Ballots possible - 193 cast 7 unused ballots. Diana Shipley received 188 votes and her name will be placed on the Boule Ballot for the Regional Conference Nominee for the Far West. Knighton received 186 votes and her name will be placed on the ballot for our region as the representative on the national nominating committee.

Philacter Report - There were very few Sorors late to the Plenary Sessions therefore only $150. Was collected.
•
Regional Graduate Advisors Institute Graduates were recognized.
•
Regional Leadership Institute Graduates were recognized 93 received certificates.
•
Final Registration 563 Graduate Sorors were present 90 undergraduates were present making a total of 653 Sorors present at regional. Delegates 171 Graduate Sorors and 28 undergraduate Sorors with a total of 199.

Our 72nd Far Western Regional Conference will be held in Oakland, California on June 7-10, 2001 at the Oakland Marriott City Center.
