    wha^uccess?^ y^ars °f Sisterhood &stervic^”
    What Is Success?
    To laugh often and much;
    To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
    To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
    To appreciate beauty;
    To find the best in others;
    To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
    To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;
    This is to have succeeded.
    Ralph Emerson
    Founders’ Day 1999 will be held jointly with Kappa Xi and Theta Theta Omega on March 14, 1999. Our sisterhood is a unique and special one. Sorors who will sit on the dais are asked to wear white and all other sorors are asked to wear pink or green.
    I wanted to take the time to say thank you to those sorors who volunteered to
    sponsor the members of Kappa XI to attend the luncheon.
    The first of two joint meetings will be held at the March 6, 1999 chapter meeting.
    I would like to see Kappa Xi and Theta Theta Omega work together on a social level as well as when we conduct the business of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Our undergraduate sorors are vital to the survival of our organization. I am glad that Kappa Xi was included

    March 18-Kappa Xi & Theta Theta Omega Social(TBA)
    in the activities planned by the membership committee.
    For the past several years, Kappa Xi has donated money to AFAN and participated in the AIDS walk. This year is no exception. I would like to see Theta Theta Omega join in on fun.
    The AIDS walk is scheduled for Sunday, April 18, 1999. We walk from
    Macy’s to New York New York and back to Macy’s. It hits the health program target and it falls into the sisterly relations area. We always have a good time.
    The objective for International Undergraduate Week is to put on programs jointly with the graduate and undergraduate chapter as well as recognize leaders in the undergraduate chapter. March is Economic Empowerment Month and at least one activity will deal with that program target.
    In order to make this a successful week, as many sorors as possible should make plans to attend the scheduled activities.
    Kappa Xi will be having a raffle. If you know anyone that would like to donate prizes, contact Soror Tami @ 458-6896. They are looking for health club memberships, a massage, manicures, pedicures, a spa visits, hair cuts etc.
    The social that will be held at 7 p.m. on March 18, will be an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate sorors to socialize, play games, and get to know each other better. I will need the assistance of graduate sorors to volunteer to bring food and beverages.
    March 19-21 Membership Intake ProcessfTBA)
    A flyer will be distributed as a reminder closer to the dates.
    There are no guarantees in life, but it is a sure thing that you will get back what you give. If you give 100% of your atten- on, energy and dmetoathing, you will get exactly that back. Spending your time and attention focused on what you cannot do and do not have assures that more of the same will come. When you concentrate on lack, weakness, fault and blame, it is sure to become a reality. Nobody has everything, but everybody has something. Use what you have right now! Give no thought to what is missing.
    Spend no time wishing it were better. Make sure you give all that you have to make sure you will get all that you need.

    20 Pearls is published on an as needed basis throughout the year.
    This is a special edition to be distributed to Kappa Xi and Theta Theta Omega members.
    As you all know, there is a legacy provision for undergraduate candidates seeking membership into the sorority. Applications may be obtained through the Graduate Advisor or chapter Basileus.

    I would like to match up Sorors based on similar interests or based on career tracks. Being a mentor does not require a great deal of time. It requires calling your mentee, assisting in planning for the sorors future, and possibly going to lunch/outing, or being a support system for an undergraduate soror. It also helps to strengthen the bonds of sisterhood and facilitate the transition from undergradu-
    We must be willing to lend a helping hand when we are called to do so. The undergraduates are a dynamic group of young ladies whom I am extremely proud to advise.
    I will have interest forms at the joint chapter meeting. If you are unable to attend that meeting a form can be mailed to you just call me at 254-4156.
