7.
Due to the vote of the Directorate, not to allow the 10-day process we can not use Friday night for our retreat, however, our Retreat Facilitator has agreed to direct our retreat on October 16, 1998 at St. James Catholic Church. If in favor we will let her know, if not we will schedule something at a later date.
8.
For those not in attendance for the MIP workshop today, another will be held on Friday at 6:30 pm before we start the MIP weekend.
On Oct 11 the Membership Committee met October 11,2:00pm at the home of Clair Hart. The following sorors were present: Carolyn parks, Jackie Hall, Jack! Brown, Dorothy Earle, Gwen Bartlett, Sandy Bass, Patti Hester, Kaweeda Adams, Rhoda Anderson, Ardell Jackson, Marion Burns, and Belisa Brownlee. The schedules and the expectations for workshops were discussed line by line. The menu for the meals were decided upon by the group and the responsibilites divided. Kaweeda Adams wanted to make sure tat the sorors could experience desserts on Friday night. Each member gave a brief overview of their presentation for the Intake Process.
Once we had completed the business of the day the committee discussed other types of affairs the sorority could become involved in to raise money and groom our young people. First, AKA Women and Men of Tomorrow and Birds of Spring were two suggestions made. Some activities would include the fine arts area: attending Operas, synphonies. and classes in etiquette. Second events like FashiM shows, Debutante balls and similar events were commented on.
The dicussion then continued as follows.
In the Las Vegas community we must raise th^level of awareness about our organization. We must become more visible and speak out so the public can be educated about who we are. We need to open up as
professional, powerful, and phophetic women about our ideas, endeavors and accomplishments. The committee agreed the sorority has alot to offer, we just need to look at different vehicles to utilize and display our talents. When the dicussion of this topic began, I was not sure where it was headed. But to me iW sounded as if the committee was recommitting itself to making Alpha Kappa Alpha supreme service to our community. Meeting adjourned @ 4:30pm.
The Intake Process was held on October 17 -19 at the Residence Inn. Five women were taken on a journey: Tamika Bailey, Shirley Carroll, Tina Rimmey, Lisa Russell, and Tiffany Stevenson. We now have five new members ready to share thejr talents, their time and promote and uphold the standards of Alpha Kappa Alph^wHHH
Recommendations for the next Intake Process is A No one should enter after the ceremonies have begun, 2) Only the philacter should open the entrance door, and 3) A timekeeper to ensure presenters are ready to start on time.
