Dr. Leon Steinberg

Leon Steinberg, MD (1918-2018), is the founder of Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (SDMI) in Las Vegas, Nevada. He moved to Las Vegas in 1958 to help create Sunrise Hospital Department of Radiology, under the administration of Nathan Adelson, and served as Director from 1958-1971. He was in private practice after 1971 and with Valley Hospital from 1975-1984. In 1988, with his son Dr. David Steinberg and Dr. Mark Winkler, he founded SDMI.

When Dr. Steinberg and his wife Frieda “Faye” Stendig (married August 28, 1954) moved to Las Vegas, they became active members of Temple Beth Sholom and helped create the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas. They served on the boards of many Jewish community organizations.

In 2004, the Steinbergs received the Federation’s Hank Greenspun Founders Award. They were honored by Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus for their many contributions to Jewish education in 2009. In addition, Temple Beth Sholom held a gala called “Dancing with the Steinbergs” to recognize their many capital contributions to the synagogue, namely the large Social Hall, the small sanctuary, and the Mikveh and Bride’s room. The Steinbergs also work to build strong ties between Las Vegas and Israel.

The Steinbergs have five children, David (Betsi), Alan (Phyllis), Dinah Faith, Brian (Hillary), and Suzanne (Sam Green), and twelve grandchildren.
