(COPY) Los Angeles, May 11, 1913. Mr. H. C. Nutt, General Manager. Dear Sir:- Replying to Mr. Wells' letter of April 30th and returning correspondence in regard to the springs at Las Vegas. Mr. Clark's understanding with reference to periodical inspection of this line is correct: Mr. Jessup has, in the past, had a man assigned to attend to this inspection and make such repairs as may be needed from time to time to keep the line in order. In this connection I beg to attach copy of detail letter from Mr. Jessup, dated May 10th, covering situation so far as this line is concerned. Pipe line, as stated by Mr. Jessup, is constructed of sheet steel, and has been in service for about seven years or more, and is in such physical condition as to necessitate constant attention, as the pipe line is eaten out in many places and is continually springing leaks. Las Vegas has become an extremely important point since this line was laid, on account of location of the shops there, etc., and I believe the time is now ripy ripe, to avoid a complete water failure, which is likely to occur, and consequences of which would be serious, to relay this line with a concrete pipe. Present line cannot last much longer at best, and we are running a risk of complete water failure at almost any time now, taking into consideration physical condition of line as above Respectfully, (Signed) T.P.CULLEN
