Letter from Walter R. Bracken (Las Vegas) to W. H. Guild and Frank Strong, January 7, 1942

Las Vegas - January 7, 1942 Mr. W. H. Guild Mr. Frank Strong I enclose copy of letter from the Mayor of Las Vegas, concerning the question of producing sufficient water to supply the large number of homes -which are expected to materialize in Las Vegas In the very near future, we received this letter 15 minutes before press time, but were able to persuade the editor to hold his issue until we had time to make a reply, which you will note, is included with attached newspaper clippings. Mayor this evening, in detail. He stated considerable pressure was being applied by various factions around town who felt that the Water Company and Power Company were doing their best to prevent further growth of the town and to have the 2,000 homes for magnesium plant employees located somewhere other than Las Vegas. We told him that this was not even logical, as additional customers meant additional revenues to both the Water Company and Power Company; but Mr. Guild Mr. Strong #2 January 7, 1942 that it was not up to us to dictate where the houses would be located, as this was something that would have to be decided by either Government officials or magnesium plant officials. That we had previoualy advised all concerned that we were in a position to furnish water for additional homes right now; and that arrangements were now under way to produce sufficient water for a maxium of 1300 additional homes; and that if it was anticipated even more homes would materialize we would have a study made by our geologist of the possibility of developing additional water from the underground channel. I shall be glad to discuss this matter with you on the telephone tomorrow and will appreciate the benefit of your advice in making reponse to the mayor. Yours truly, Walter R. Bracken
