Spring on Sund Land Las Vegas, Nevada March 7, 1929 Mr. F. H. Knickerbocker, General Manager Union Pacific System Los Angeles, California Dear Sir: Acknowledging your letter ofMarch 6 on Line making inquiry concerning Water on the Sund tract recently secured by the T. J. Lawrence Company: Mr. Lawrence, in acquring the Winterwood Ranch, also acquired what is known as Sund Tract adjoining Charleston Boulevard just South of Las Vegas. Both the Winterwood Ranch and the Sund Tract were owned by Mr. Lindsay of Los Angeles. In the devolopment of the Winterwood Ranch, all water used thereon will either have to be piped about seven (7) miles from the Sund Tract to the ranch property, or be secured from wells located on the ranch and lifted by pump, as there is no artesian water in that part of the valley. The Winterwood Ranch has been to a certain extent farmed for a number of years and irrigated by pump water. In reference to the water which is located on the Sund Tract, it is not a sprlng, but they have thereon two (2) artesian wells which were drilled some years ago. The flow of both wells, however, does not equal the flow of our one (1) artesian well supplying water for Railroad and Townsite purposes. I might further state that in early years the Railroad Company or rather the representatives of the Short Line Railroad and Senator Clark purchased the only known springs within a radius of twenty miles in this valley, and there are no springs that I know of, other than a little seepage through the ground here and there in or around Las Vegas.
