s Congratulations The people of the Las Vegas area are to be congratulated, not only for the forward . step, they took in the water district vote yes- fj terday, but for the interest displayed in the ' election. A vast majority of the residents of the f area took time out from their daily routine' to vote on the matter and showed, once again, that they are progressive and ’ ! forward-looking citizens. : 44^$.44 By a margin of almost 10 to - one, the 1 ' voters approved the water district which | means so much to this area in the future. They realized that, unless a sufficient water ; supply is assured for the future, the size to which/this section could grow, would have been definitely, limited. It is interest .of this kind that it takes to make cities grow and, it is the sincere hope of all of the'progres­sive citizens of this area that the voters al­ways will show the same faith they have in the last two improvements voted in this, | section. The vote in yesterday’s election was one of the largest ever cast in such a poll. It f even outranked that of the airport which also was approved by a 10-1 margin. It also is gratifying to have witnessed ,1 the almost united front taken by the civic ; organizations of the section as well as of the news dissemination agencies of Las . Vegas. AIL service clubs put on* concerted ?t, campaigns to get out the vote and the radio . stations aided this newspaper in seeing that 1 all citizens were informed as to what the p water district was and what it meant to the ' citizens of the valley in the future. Las Vegas and the surrounding territory can well be proud of 'its citizenry. The • voters have shown, in no uncertain terms, , v that they are for progress and that is what 4 will make the Las Vegas section the great­e s t in the state of Nevada. - There can be no 1 doubt but that, with the type of support the leaders of this community received in the j,election yesterday, there are no limits to [what can- be accomplished in this territory. r With the Basic Magnesium plant on the . threshold of great- expansion and the air -rfield being re-activated, there can be ho 4 doubt but that expansion will^set in almost fl immediately.;' ’ gpjg In' 'years to come, those who took part in the election yesterday, will be able to f look back and report that, .they were fortu- 5 nate enough to take part, in the most „im- ; portant step ev^r taken by this Las Vegas f valley. It is a [step that will go4dow nin „ history as one aa mofhentous as that which Los ATngele'g to,ok, so many years ago, When [ the voters4set up the Metropolitan water I district -and brought water into the dry and arid Los Angeles “deserts” to make th6 city what it is today. There can be little hope that Las Vegas arid its environs-will grow to the extent of ; Los Angeles, but it certainly is within the ? realm of probability that Las Vegas, Hen­derson and Boulder City will grow to be the three largest cities in the state of Nevada, and Clark county the most populous section in much of thg southwest. Again, the Review-Journal "desires to congratulate the people of the water district for -their foresight and thank the various 1 agencies which pitched in so willingly to help put the water- district over.
