Olark County Health Department Stewart and Second Sts. M l tegas, Mevada Division of: Administration May 25* 1950 Mr. A. it. Folger L&t Vega* Land and katsr Co. SOI South Second Street l»aa Vegas, Ssvada Dear Mr, Folger: Aa you know, this office and your ova representatives have recently picked up samplee of water from th* supply furnishing culinary water to- citizens of Las Yegg, 'which show fecal contamination by standard laboratory methods. Several samples proved either questionable or unsafe la the area served by the Ogden Street Main. At that time (May 10), X called you and the Las Yeg&s City Engineer to report and dleouse sams. Xt was iay r«ooHunend&tion that the above line or lines Involved be flushed and that chlorine be added to the water la the involved area, oa May 12# in our conversation It was agreed that the entire system should get chlorine. All of this was carried out accord- ing to your statement and test* at several points for chlorine verified this, then early last week X suggested that all sources Of water be sampled for testing. I M s was accomplished by yocHP department with all samples being reported as satisfactory except the *3ig Spring" supply, this sample showed focal oontaadnat 1 on. f M s should be rschscksd immediately and X siegest throughout the system* a wide sampling Xt Is therefore ay opinion that the entire water supply should be chlorinated constantly as a safety measure* starting Immediately. There are several reasons to support such a request. To name a few: 1. Apparently one source of supply Is contaminated. 2. Known recent contamination of the Ogden Street line, % Possible City-wide Contamination where a course of supply shows contamination. X refer to the Big Spring water sample collected by your department, h, Then seemingly, from all Information X emu gain, it has •bees a fairly common practice to lay or cross- water and sewer lines at too close a distance for safety.
