\ r\ 4 \ i\ I, M \ 1 frLAS ’VEG-AS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE / 7 r - 2 - ' Las Vegas, Nevada August 13, 1919. W. H. Comstock A. S. Halstead W. R. Bracken J. Ross Clark IN RE: The matter of Water Pressure fo r Fire Protection for the City of Las Vegas, Nevada. G-entlemen: At a largely attended meeting of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the matter of Las Vegas Land and Water Company*s water supply and hydrant pressure fo r fir e purposes was taken up and fu lly discussed. The following fact was clearly shown, to-wi that at the la s t three fire s that we have had in the City the water pressure was so low that i t was of l i t t l e , i f any value in controlling the fir e s . The question i s : Why is this condition? You have a f a l l of some eighty feet from source of supply into your mains that are la id in our streets and a lle y s, which should give us at least thirty pounds pressure after allowing fo r ordinary fric tio n not through pipes, e tc., while at the la s t fire s we have/had to exceed, ten pounds of pressure. For this deplorable condition there must be a cause. We fe e l that i t is your duty as a corporation doing business unde^? and by virtue of the laws of the State of Nevada, and by furnishing water to the City of Las Vegas, Nevada under and by virtue of a franchise from the City of Las Vegas, to give this matter your earnest attention, and as soon as possible. I f the large main leading from the source to the city mains is not carrying a f u ll supply of water#fo r the present needs, we fee l that i t should be put in condition to do so. I f the main lin e is carrying a fp l supply o f water fo r the present needs, and that supply is turned into mains covering the City and no pressure is obtained for f ir e
