I n 1928 a 2 , 5 0 0 , 0 0 0 g a l l o n r e ­i n f o r c e d c o n c r e te r e s e r v o i r was c o n s t r u c t e d . The w e ll and r e s e r ­v o i r c o s t approxim ately # 7 0 , 0 0 0 . 0 0 . New 16 and 24 inch mains were l a i d from the r e s e r v o i r to the r a i l r o a d y a rd s, a t which p o in t the c i t y mains take o u t. A l l th e s e f a c i l i t i e s are owned and maintained e x c l u s i v e l y by the Los Angeles & S a l t Lake R a ilr o a d Company, the v a l u a t i o n o f which i s placed a t # 1 7 7 , 1 4 7 . 8 8 . The Las Vegas Land and Water Company in turn pays r e n t a l to th e r a i l r o a d company, pro­r a t e d on the amount o f water used. Previous to A p r i l 1, 1929 the water company paid a f l a t r e n t a l o f # 2 0 0 .0 0 per month f o r t h i s s e r v i c e . The l a s t n in e months o f 1929 the r e n t a l was #975 .0 0 per month, and during 1930 i t was r a i s e d to $ 1 , 4 3 3 . 5 8 per month. At the h e a rin g a w r i t t e n p r o t e s t was r e c e i v e d signed by 2 o 9 consumers o f w a te r , who were r e p r e s e n te d by c o u n s e l. The main p r o t e s t s were a g a i n s t the r a t e s f o r auto camps, bungalow c o u r ts and r a t e s p r o s c r i b e d f o r w a terin g lawns, e t c . Those r a t e s were d e cla re d to be e x c e s s i v e and i n e q u i t a b l e with o th e r c l a s s e s o f s e r v i c e . I f more time had been a v a i l a b l e many more p r o t o s t a n t s in o th e r c l a s s e s o f s e r v i c e would p o s s i b l y hove t e s t i f i e d . R3 VALUATION OF PHYSICAL PROPVRTY From e x h i b i t s introduced and a l s o from the company's annual r e p o r t s a value o f # 8 1 , 9 2 8 . 0 5 was placed on a l l p h y s i c a l p r o p e r ty owned s o l e l y by the Las Vegas Land and Water Company; ^ 1 9 , 5 2 4 . 4 2 o f t h i s has been r e t i r e d s i n c e 1911 through d e p r e c i a t i o n . The v a lu e a t the p r e s e n t time i s $ 6 2 , 4 0 3 . 6 3 . No a p p r a i s a l o f t h i s p r o p e r ty was made-, and consequ ently the commission has no idea what re p r o d u c tio n c o s t would bo a t t h i s time.
