Gentlemen: I e n c lo s e h erew ith amendment and supplement to schedule o f r a t e s and charges o f Las Vegas Land and Water Company f o r w ater and w ater s e r v ic e in th e C ity of Las Vegas, to become e f f e c t i v e October 1 , 1 9 3 4 , wherein the schedule f o r c o o lin g w ater f o r r e f r i g e r a t o r machines i s d ivided in to two c a t e g o r i e s - one where the w ater i s c o l l e c t e d , r e - c o o le d and r e -u s e d ; no change in r a t e ; and the o th e r i s f o r water which, a f t e r b e in g passed through th e machine, i s w asted, the r a t e i s f i x e d a cco rd in g to the s i z e o f the r e f r i g e r a t i n g m achine. Also supplementing the p re s e n t schedule by c r e a t in g a monthly r a t e f o r w ater used f o r c o o lin g r o o f s through s p r in k le r system. Through t e s t s a c t u a l l y made, we have determined th a t r e f r i g e r a t i n g machines u sin g w ater f o r c o o lin g and where the w ater runs d i r e c t from our mains through th e machine and i s wasted in to the c e ssp o o l or sewer use the fo llo w in g amounts o f wTa t e r : O ne-half ton machines - 6 g a llo n s per m inute; 8 ,6 4 0 g a llo n s per day; 2 5 9 ,2 0 0 g a llo n s per month. One ton machines - 10 g a llo n s per m inute; 1 4 ,4 0 0 g a llo n s per day; 4 3 2 ,0 0 0 g a llo n s per month. There a re some, s i x t y - f o u r s e r v i c e s in Las Vegas having o n e -h a lf to two ton m achines, and which a c t u a l l y consume some 7 3 7 ,2 8 0 g a llo n s o f w ater per day, and th a t i s over 1 6 of the t o t a l consumption f o r the C ity o f Las Vegas. The p r i n c i p a l purposes of t h i s schedule i s to d isco u r a. t h i s t e r r i b l e waste of w ater by r e q u ir in g th o se u se rs to e r e c t c o o lin g towers whereby th e w ater can be r e -u s e d , and the secondary purpose i s to save th e p re s e n t sewer system r e c e n t l y c o n s tr u c te d a t a c o s t o f some $ 2 7 5 ,0 0 0 and which i s now b ein g ru in ed by th e enormous flow o f w ater th a t i s going through the same. S e v e ra l of the consumers have c o o lin g towers a t th e p re s e n t tim e, but th e g r e a t m a jo r ity of them did not i n s t a l l towers a t th e time of th e i n s t a l l a t i o n ' o f t h e i r p l a n t s , f ig u r in g th a t on account o f the e x i s t i n g r a t e th a t they could use th e water d i r e c t and save them selves, the expense o f i n s t a l l i n g c o o lin g tow ers.
