I believe this is a matter that our legal department should go into thoroughly at once, so that when the question is presented by the ^eno company, we will have available facts and figures with which to effectively assist them in changing the meter law at the coming session of the legislature. For your information, I enclose statement showing production of water at las Vegas as reflected by weir measurements taken last Saturday, June 22nd, which shows quite a decrease in the water coming from the artesian well, and also the pump in the railroad yards, as compared with similar measurements taken last year. There is also a statement showing daily production reflected by weir measurements in previous years, from which you will note there has been a decrease of 100,000 gallons per day since the April 1936 measurements were taken, and the total amount available is lower than it has been since July 1934. Enclosed also is copy of a letter to the Mayor of kas Vegas, notifying him of the water situation during the past few days. In this connection, Mr. Jeffers inquired some time ago (his J-76 of April 29th), what effect the passage of city ordinance had had with respect to conserving water; it seems apparent that the ordinance has been of no effect what-
