/ LOS AMCELE3, February 21, 1945 Mr. Leo A* MoMamee: (ce - Mr. Walter Brack;* Mr. Frank Strong Mr. R. E. Marks) Herewith, copy of Mr. Marks’ wire of the 21st in connection with proposed bill to permit use of meters in measuring water in Nevada under the conditions suggested in the bill. I know of no reason why the people of Las Vegas should not get behind this proposed bill in view of the meeting we had, attended by representatives of the State Engineering Department, practically all of the members of the Chamber of Commerce, and other interested people wherein the question of conservation of water in the Las Vegas Basin was thoroughly discussed. I think it quite essential, therefore, that you and Mr. Bracken contact representative citizens of Las Vegas, as well as public bodies, and have them instruct the Clark County delegation to get behind this bill and press It to a conclusion. If the bill fails of passage, that is one thing; but there is no reason why it should not be introduced, nor can I think of any reason why the Clark County delegation would not listen to suggestions from representative citizens of Las Vegas. Will you please cooperate with Mr. Bracken and get in behind this measure, and, if necessary, go up to Carson City and expedite its introduction and possible passage. I think if the bill is explained to the Reno delegation and they are advised that it will not affect them, there would be little opposition to the bill, assuming it will be introduced. Please give this matter your preferred attention. a
