R E7IEW -J0UR H AL 7/20/50 Serious Water Shortage T o Be Aired By Bunker Friday! The serious water shortage in Las Vegas is scheduled to be jj aired at tomorrow’s meeting of the city commission and Commis-sioner Wendell Bunker invited interested water users to be present i and m m in the discussion. Bunker, said today he was “ tired acting as a front for the 5 water company’’ in trying to ex- g plain away the water shortage, J arid that he would have “ plenty ‘ to say for the record” at tomor- \ ro w ’s meeting concerning the ^ situation. j1 “ The poeple of Las Vegas are ^ not going .to listen to any more ! promises. T h a t’s all they’ve been ; getting — promises but very lit- ]i, tie water,” Bunker declared. ; “ It's absolutely tragic the way , lawns are going to ruin this, sum-; $ meri^because there isn’t enough ' water to go around and because : of the ridiculous restrictions put 1 on use)” he continued. ? “ We were promised last sum- j m er this-wouldn’t happen again! \ I t ’s worse this year than in 1949, j and it will be worse next year j if we don’t do something about 1 it. Unless we’re assured a w ork- - able plan w ill be put into effect. \ which w ill relieve, the situation ‘ by next year, I ’m in favor of | the city taking over the utility ; and I ’m deadly serious. j “ The city’s getting the blame i for all thitubecause we’re the 1 ones who are passing th!e ordiri- v ances and/sending out our po- y licemen to harass pepole who j only are .desperately trying to J save- the ; lawns they’ve spent years working on. L • think the blame should be planed where it belongs. The water company has fallen down on the job tragically.” Bunker said he hoped the city could work out a plan for cHang- , ing the hours of watering to > make them more workable and satisfactory,: and would propose a motion to carry Out that pro- ' gram . . Th e meeting w ill be held in the city commissioner chambers in the city hall starting at 3 o’ clock and Bunker said, the public would be welcome to attend. •o-
