Los Angeles* March 23, W M . R. MAY 22 196. 195© 1-7334 Mr. Wm. Reinhardt? I have reviewed the report on Water Supply dated October* 1949* prepared by Greeley and Hansen for the Las Vegas Water District* Las Vegas* Nevada* and have prepared the attached estimate of cost of the water lines* pumping stations, reservoirs, etc., separating the costs of facilities proposed for the years 1950 and 1958. Greeley and Hansen prepared estimates ©f water transmission mains of different sizes and at different locations from Lake Mead to Las Vegas with varying numbers of reservoirs* pumping stations, pumping capacity heads* etc. to determine first costs and annual costs thereafter over a period of years. They finally determined that the facilities and estimates of cost as shown on their Tables Nos. 20* 11 and 15 proved to be moat economical. The Engineers give data relative to water supplies from various sources* estimated increase in population and estimated consumption during future years to 1980 and on to year 2000. Based on the quantities of water which they estimate will be consumed by the district in the future* their hydraulic data for friction loss, dynamic heads, water delivered etc. are correct for the coefficient ttC" which they used (Hazen-Williams nC° * 125 for to Las Vegas and "C* = 11© for distribu titorna nslimniesss ioinn smiadeins City of Las Vegas.) These values of *C" will be about correct for new pipe now but in later years there may be some corrosion Inside the pipe which would probably lower the value of "G" depending on the amount of corrosion. It is understood* of course* that Greeley and Hansen1s report is a preliminary one* prepared from various records, contour maps, etc., without field surveys, and that their estimate of cost is approximate only. I think further study should be given to the connection of the 18* main which la proposed to serve City of North Las Vegas. The Engineers propose to connect this 18" main to the north end of our 12" main which extends northerly and parallel to Main Street one- half block east of Main. This line now has a heavy drawoff. Greeley and Hansen state that an additional 12" line should be constructed at this location from Ogden Street to the beginning of proposed 18” main some time in the future* depending on the growth of the City of North Las Vegas* but have not included this cost in their estimate which involves approximately 3500 feet of 12" line at estimated cost of $28,000.
