O FFIC E OF EXECUTIVE a s s is t a n t Los Angeles - June 1, 1948* LA-3-4 Referring to your letter of May 28th* No* A-823-24 regarding discrepancy in water collections by Las Vegas office of the Las Vegas Land and Water Co*: Traveling Accountant*s reports concerning semi-annual check-ups of outlets required of employes of the Las Vegas office because of general understanding such traveling representatives were not expected to investigate physical matters* Mr. Bracken*s letter of May 20th stating that the population in Las Vegas increased from 8500 to 23,000, or 160 per cent, with an increase of only about 15 per cent in the water revenues is more or less misleading* I am inclined to the belief that the increase in population does not represent the increase in water consumers for the reason that it appears the increase to 23,000 inhabitants includes persons who have settled around Midway * Whitney, Basic Magnesium Plant and along the highway in trailers, none of which locations are served by the Water Department* Up until reoent construction of pipe line from Lake Mead, the contractor and employes located at the Basic Magnesium Plant obtained their water from the railroad company in tank car lots.
