September 21, 1945 Union Pacific Eailroad Co. 422 West Sixth Street Los Angeles 14, California Attention of Mr. Frank Strong Gentlemen: PROPOSED RESERVOIR, ETC., AT LAS VEGAS. NEVADA We propose to furnish all supervision, labor, material and equipment to do the following work at Las Vegas, Nevada, for the guaranteed maximum sum of $159,018.00, which includes our fee of $14,456.00: Construct concrete reservoir, of one and one-half million gallons capacity, in accordance with drawings now being prepared by George E. Brandow; Construct concrete settling basin in accordance with drawing now being prepared by George E. Brandow; Construct pump house, fire pump house and two concrete valve boxes, and excavate and backfill trenches for by-pass lines and fire pipe lines in accordance with drawing prepared by your office, revised August 11, 1945, Excavate and backfill trenches for pipe lines connecting the reservoir with the pump house and settling basin, and connecting the settling basin with wells 8, 9, 10 and 11 in accordance with profile prepared by your office dated July 16, 1945; * Excavate and backfill trench for a 24-inch diameter pipe line, in a location and at elevations to be designated by you, connecting the pump house with your existing pipe line near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Main Street, except the portion of this trench which is beneath the road bed of your tracks. In making this proposal we have estimated that excavation and trenching can be done at an average cost of $3.00 per cubic yard. Preliminary investigation shows no ground water, except possibly at the pump house site. Our experience in the general Las Vegas territory, however, indicates that ground water level is quite variable, and if water is encountered in such quantity as to necessitate pumping, shoring, and other unforeseen expense, we will expect to be reimbursed for such additional expense at cost.
