Dear Sir: Supplementing my letter November 8th, with which I enclosed copy of letter from Director White, of the State Board of Health, concerning proposed improve­ments to the Open Spring. letter November 10th, received today: "The Union Pacific offices at Los Angeles called me with regard to using the spring we inspected last week. I had assumed in my report to you that the pump could oper­ate as satisfactorily outside the spring area as inside, and that the change to th~ outside of the collecting basin would not be a particularly expensive job. In my conversation with the Union Pacific officials I learned that the pump would have to be replaced if my recommendations were followed out and have, therefore, accepted their agreement to provide other protection in the form of floors and floo surfacing. I am also advised that they are installing a first-class ehlorinator at a cost of around $1,500. I called their attention to my conversation with you wherein I had reported the Job could be done for around $300, but they seemed to want the more expensive unite, and of course I had no objection to that installation."
