Mr* K nickerbocker: #3 June 15, 1935 mining d is tric t is being actively pushed, and. a mining re vival in this v ic in ity would m aterially increase the popula tio n of Las Vegas. P ractically a l l of the major o il companies have in stalled large service stations on the main street of the town, in anticipation of a healthy tourist trade, and automobile courts and bungalows are s t i l l being added on F ifth Street. Our water f a c ilit i e s are now being taxed to capacity during the summer months, and I believe we should keep pace with the growth of the town and be prepared to serve a larger community in the future. Tou w ill find herewith measurements of the water supply since June 6th, at which time Mel Anderson checked our present sources of supply and he can, I believe, fu rnish f a i r ly accurate figures on the cost of boring an additional w ell for iMiich work he is experienced and competent as outlined in my le tte r of the 6th. In going over the water supply again this morning we find conditions not as good as they were yesterday and the day before. '-^here has been no water flowing over the sp ill-w ay o f the reservoir for three or four days, and the water lev el in the reservoir is 11 inches below the s p i ll way discharge. fhe prospects for any improvement over this are not encouraging. Wq have not yet been able to convince the new City Commission that we must have a re strictin g ordinance on sprinkling and waste of water, and i t would appear that they are trying to make the situation look as alarming as possible, which w ill give them the chance of re porting to the iWA, in support o f their request for a i>200,- 000 loan, that we are unable to handle the situation here ourselves. Yours very tru ly ,
