•i V Omaha - July 6 , 1950 LA-20-6-3 Mr. Reinhardt - Los Angeles (cc - Mr. A. C, Ritter - Los Angeles Mr. D. F. Wengert - Los Angeles) \95tt OC-t b Please refer to your copy of Mr. Frank Strong*s letter of April 6 , 1948, to Superintendent Wengert relative to proposed use of transite pipe and fittings for repairs or installation in the water lines owned by the Las Vegas Land & Water Company. For your information I am attaching a copy of letter received from Mr. H. B. Heyn, Manager, Industrial Produets Division, Johns-Manville Corporation. Mr. Heyn and Mr. Hitcheoek called on me at Los Angeles last week, and advised that they are not permitted to bi^ on transite pipe for use by the L.V.L.& W. Co. The Union Pacific has received favorable service from transite pipe, and we consider it comparable with cast iron pipe except at such locations as railroad crossings and other selected locations. In general this pipe is much more economical to Install than cast iron pipe, and the service it has performed to this date is entirely satisfactory. In view of the faot that Johns-Manville is a good patron of the U.P., and that transite pipe is used by many municipalities in California, and elsewhere, as shown on attached statements, I am wondering if you would desire to amend the instructions contained in Mr. Strong*s letter of April 6 , 1948.
