R V/jif APR 11 1952 further my letter March 13th relative to question of Railroad developing independent water supply ? at Las Vegas. I now have the following additional report from I Chief Engineer Perkins, under date of April 8th: •*On March 28 X spent the day at Las Togas, and inspected the old shop well} also conferred at length with General Water Service foreman, Mel Anderson, who is personally cleaning and testing the old well. "At that time indications were that this well could be brought back to full production in spite of the fact it has practically been out of service for a number of years. Mr. Anderson has been pumping and surging this well, and has increased its capacity. "X am attaching a photostatic copy of pencil sketch showing the condition of this well* There is 236* of 12** casing, and inside the 12” casing there has been placed a 10" easing to a depth of 780". This well has been filled to a depth of 594*, and sometime in the past a 5" pipe was installed in the well to accommodate an air lift. This pipe has dropped to the bottom of the well, with the top of the 5" pipe approximately 224* below the surface. This pipe is ineffective, and filled, however, there is a good supply of water flowing between the 5" and 10" pipe. "The submersible pump, now in the well, is pumping approximately 500 g.p.m., but the draw-down is excessive{ therefore, it is recommended that the pump be lowered 72* which can be accomplished with equipment furnished by the pump manufacturer at a cost of $600.
