( C O P Y ) MAILGRAM Los Angeles , October 15, 1952 7334 Smith - Los Angeles Martin - Los Angeles Johnson - Las Vegas) For your information, Mr. Wm* Reinhardt has authorized the employment of Barber—Bridge Drilling Corp#, Ltd# of Burbank, California, to make production test of wells Nos. g 4 t 9 , 9 and 10 at Las Vegas, Nevada, at a total approximate cost of $5000.00 chargeable to Operating Expense account 231. Contractor will start moving his equipment to Las Vegas today and it will take approximately 15 days to complete these tests. The reason these tests are being made at this time is to determine what is necessary to increase water production from Railroad wells at Las Vegas so as to increase amount of water delivered to Las Vegas Land and Water Company for distribution in the City of Las Vegas. Nevada Public Utilities Case No. 1027 against Las Vegas Land and Water Company was instigated in August, 1950, to show cause why water being supplied to the City should not be increased. With understanding pumps would be installed in wells 8, 10 and 11 the Commission suspended action on their Case No. 1027. The pumps were subsequently installed and water supply increased some 3,000,000 gallons per day. During the past summer there was another shortage of water and lack of pressure which resulted in the City of Las Vegas again filing complaint with Nevada Public Utilities Commission with request that the Water Company be required to increase its water supply to the City. An informal hearing was held Oct. 9th with members of the Public Service Commission of Nevada by Mr. E. E. Bennett and the Commission members who agreed to withhold opening up the case for 30 days to give us an opportunity to determine what could be done to increase our water supply, it being Commission members contention that by lowering pumps in existing wells and installing pumps on walls not now so ©quippod w© could, substantially Incp©as© our water production. Inasmuch as we have only 30 days to make our report to the Commission, Mr. Reinhardt authorized obtaining services of Barber-Bridge Drilling Corp. Ltd. to start immediately to make these production tests. R-308 (Sgd) R. L. Adamson Mr. W. C. Perkins - Omaha (cc - Mr. V. W. Mr. P. G. Mr. W. H.
