    AS PUBLISHED IN THE LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL ON JUNE 17, 1953 WHEREAS, there is a critical water shortage in the City of Las Vegas due in large part to the excessive use of water for lawns, frees, gardens, and other agri­cultural purposes; and WHEREAS, the continued growth and prosperity of this City depends on an ade­quate water supply and conservation of the existing supply of water; and WHEREAS, an additional source of water will not be available to the resi­dents of this City for some time; and WHEREAS, the continued, excessive use of water may cause a serious health menace as well as the possibility of a disastrous fire; and WHEREAS, the people of Las Vegas are aware of the need for water conserva­tion; and WHEREAS, the Board of City Commis­sioners believes that the common sense of the citizens of Las Vegas, and their pride in their City will make voluntary conser­vation measures effective; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners believes that voluntary conservation of water will result in drastically alleviating the present water shortage; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners feels that the use of water in accordance with the schedule set forth below is uni- Ig y jg R y fl and impartial, and will not do an injustice to anyone, NOW THEREFORE, I, C. D. BAKER, May­or, do hereby proclaim that the watering of lawns, trees, gardens, and the use of water for other agricultural purposes by home owners in Las Vegas shall be done on the following dates, effective immedi­ately: (1) Those with lots facing West and South, on the ODD numbered days of the month during July, August and September.
