mm Annual Report of Water Utilities Los Angeles, Calif., .... L.V. 16 JAN 20 1928 Mr. Prank B^sFsrren, Secretary, PublCiacr soSne rvCiictey ^^Cloemvmaidsas.ion of Nevada, Dear Sir: Referring to your letter dated January 10, 1928, file 530, in connection with annual report of Las Vegas Land and Water Company for the year ended December 31, 1926. The amount of $20,050.74, as reflected by Account 12 on General Balance Sheet attached to the report, represents the original investment in the Water System at Las Vegas, Nevada, made in 1905. Of course, at present day prices, this investment would be very much greater. The amount of $17,543.99 reported for Account No.753-4, Maintenance of Distribution Mains'1, on page 12 of the report, includes an amount of $15,733.69 covering extensive renewals made to the water distributing system during the months of October, November and December 1926, which will explain the large charge to Operating Expenses for the year. This results in an actual cost of $1,810.30 covering normal expense in connection with the maintenance of distribution mains during the year 1926 as compared with $1,381.75 for a similar expense for the year 1925. The item of $2,400.00 covering water purchased for resale, reported for Account No*7Q4 on page 11 of the report, represents a $200.00 monthly cost covering use of pipe line of, and purchase of water from the Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad Company.
