Los Angeles, October 24th, 1933. 030-2 Mr. Walter Bracken: Fire inspection was recently made of the larger industrial properties by representative of the Railroad Insurance Associat­ion, who accompanied our System Fire Protection Engineer, Mr. E. W. Strauss. Report of this inspection includes the following LVL&W Company facilities: LAS VEGAS, REV. Boarding House 1. It is urgently recommended that present method of chuting rubbish through wood chutes from second floor y windows to bags at ground be discontinued. Rubbish should be placed in metal cans- with covers and disposed of daily. If it is considered necessary to use chutes for rubbish, they should be of metal and the rubbish should drop into metal cans* 2. Provide a measuring pump for gasoline, preferably install underground tank for necessary supply of gasoline. At least the present method of using drum should be safe- I guarded as much as possible by using only bright red drums and placing signs reading “Danger - Keep Lights and Fires Away.“ 3. Electric circuit for fuel oil pump in boiler room . should be properly fused. ^ Regarding Item 1: Please advise if it is necessary to chute this rubbish from the second floor to the first floor, as you will note it is recommended that if it is considered necessary y to use chutes for rubbish, they should be of metal, also that rubbish should be dropped into metal cans. Wish to avoid expense of providing underground storage tank for drawing gasoline, and wish you would advise what arrange-ment you can make to comply with recommendation of Insurance In­spector. » Pleasb advise regarding electric circuit for fuel oil pump in boiler room, which it is stated should be properly fused, and state if this has been corrected*
