Los Angeles - May 20, 195^ 8 0 -1 1 Mr. 0. A. Thomas - Renot . I am enclosing a copy 'of a letter I wrote to Senator Kuchel which Is self-explanatory. You, of course, know the Railroad owns the Water Company in Las Vegas, and have about sold It to the Water Districtj however, during the preliminary investigation it was developed that the Basic Management, Inc. did not have an easement for the existing pipe line, nor was there, of course, an easement for the branch pipe line to bring water from the main line to Las Vegas. Senator McCarran introduced two bills, Nos. 3302 and 3303, graritlng to the Basic Management in one bill, and to the Water District in the other, a permanent easement for the pipe lines. I talked on the phone the other day to our man in Idaho, and he states you and Molly Malone are buddies, and since Molly is on the Interior and insular Affairs Committee, I wonder if you would drop him a note asking him to lend his support to the bills and the early approval thereof by the Committee. I believe several people in Las Vegas have written him, and probably he knows something about the bills, so I don’t know whether it would be necessary for you to give him all the details I have given Senator Kuchelj however, if you see fit, you can use the enclosed letter as a basis for your letter to him, or paraphrase it to suit yourself. Unlike Senator Kuchel, Senator Malone of course knows the background which I had to give Senator Kuchel, and it is quite possible you can shorten your letter materially, and ask him in your diplomatic way to get"on the ball” and get the Committee to give a favorable recommendation.
