    <$>. ? :;v- ??; v bitterly# Mr* Bracken today is sending you representative section of pipe removed from Markins Addition lines, also some of the spiral wire which has rusted in two and sample of soil* It is quite evident that the alkaline soil has destroyed the asphalt ooating and wire, and seems ter have deadened the wood in the pipe itself*' There is no doubt that the proper thing to do is to replace the wooden stave pipe with cast iron, as authorised by wo-241* 1 discussed with the attorney for the Hawkins Addition, question of guarantee they may have received from the Pacific Tank and Pipe Company of Los Angeles, and he advised that they did not receive a guarantee* 1 then discussed with Pacific Company the installation of this • pipe in 1903, advising them that we purchased this pipe line in 1998, and, now that pipe has failed after only eleven years * service, we feel that some adjustment' should be made aeoount failure of pipe* Their representative advises that . the pipe which they sold the Hawkins Company was not their best grade pipe, nor the pipe which they first recommended* At that time, they told Mr. Hawkins that for an expenditure to them of about .30$ more, they could install pipe which would last about twice as long; but that Mr. Hawkins stated this ms for a subdivision built to sell, and they did not desire to incur the additional expense* Pacific Tank and Pipe Company* a representative ms in Las Vegas, December 8th, and examined some of the pipe^ wire, etc* which had been .v • ? «
