Las Vegas,Nevada REVIEW - JOURNAL January 16, 19^9 Wafer District Survey Expected In Near Future The Las Vegas valley water district commissioners, at their first active meeting Friday night, took steps to get tne project un-i der way and it is expected that! an engineering firm will be selected within the next month or so to start work on the survey of! the area. Harry E. Miller, chairman of the board, reported that a $10,000 loan from the county had been; received and that the commissioners now were ready to start active work on the project. He; said that several engineering firms had submitted proposals I j for the survey and that the first I task facing the board would be j to select the firm to do this work. I Among the firms submitting pro-! posals was one local group, Miller said. It is the plan of the commission to call all of the engineering i outfits into conferencee with the commissioners, receive their pro-; posals and then select the one! ! which the commissioners believe! (will do the best job. Under thej ; present plans, the firms will jjgjii j called in, 'one at a time and prob- ‘ ably two each evening, until all: ! of the agencies have been inter- ! viewed. Then the choice will be! 1 made, Miller said. It is hoped, | She said, that the job can be! ; cleaned up in two weeks after | jthe first firm is invited in. There was much discussion! jover the validity of the water i district act and there was a feel- ling that some of the sections of! ithe act should be clarified and j strengthened, Miller said. Toward; ! that end, the commissioners will j 1 confer with the Clark county! (legislative delegation in the near; future with a view toward accomplishing this. Calvin Corey, representing the Union Pacific railroad, attended the meeting and reported to the1 commissioners that he had informed the railroad company that the act was constitutional and, i that he was certain that the board had the authority to dicker i with the railroad company for! purchase of the present distribu- ition system in the city of Las Vegas, Miller said.
