CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RECOMMENDS f FORMATION OF WATER DISTRICT , The Las Vegas chamber of com­merce today adopted a resolution to. recommend to the boards of city 'and ©lark county .commis­sioners, to! take immediate steps to form a water district to ' bring water to Vegas valley from Lake Mead; and either distribute the water here or make a contract with the Las Vegas Land- and Water 'company for the distribu­tion. Considerable discussion preced­ed' the adoption of the .motion, with' the speakers, President Mar­ion B. EarL Secretary R. B. Grif­fith, Charles Pipkin, and John F. jfl Miller^ emphasizing that the cham- £ ber of commerce is not trying to £ fight the wafer company; They < stressed the necessity of and ade­quate water supply for this area, ‘ not limited by the present under- 1 ground water. The four speakers pointed out , that 'it is necessary to- take im- j mediate steps to guarantee a sup- » ply of wafer so that the growth of the town will not be retarded. THE REV. C. H. Mr. Sloan has been a resident.; of Las, Vegasfor 15 years, during which he' has been the pdstor of the First Baptist church, and has been active in community affairs. A member of the Kiwanis club, he lias served several terms on the executive board of that organization. He also has. been a regular member of the chamber of commerce and has been on the board of directors ‘several times,' always devoting much of his time-and; energy l§ the committee which he headed. In 1938. he was1 elected to the Nevada legislature 'from . Clark . county and during his term there took particular interest in mat­ters relating to the protection of fish and game.' He was presi-. dent of the Fish and Game Pro- tective Association of Clark coun­ty and has assisted- in fostering .the. ? activities of that organiza­tion. He .is-- a native of Louisville, Kentucky, but received his early education in the schools of Texas. Upon his graduation from high school, he enrolled? at Colgate uni­versity in New York and was graduated there.
