Population Of County Nearly 50,000, Revealed Sugar Rationing Cards Indicate Growth Is Tremendous -Population of Clark county as : of May 7, 1942, was close to 50,900 persons, figures released yesterday by the sugar ration- ' ing board indicate. There are 43,475 persons accounted for With sugar rationing cards and known population groups not included in the ra- ! tioning. In addition to that num- ‘ ber, there are many hundreds re- siding in hotels and auto courts Who eat their, meals in restau- rants and do not have sugar ’ cards. *! ' Number Estimated This latter number is estimated variously from 2,500 to 5,000, and there is no way of arriving at an accurate total. It is somewhere ; between the two, according to ? best information available. The total number of sugar | cards issued in the county is 34,*;'j 841. Military personnel and their : families not accounted for in this | figure total approximately 6,100. Magnesium plant workers housed-, in the camps at the plant and in j Boulder City -not required to j have sugar cards, total 2,534, ; bringing the known population | figure to 43,475. Add to that the cardless resi- j dents who take their meals in j restaurants, and the figure t mounts additional thousands. j j; Towns Listed .
