Page F ew Thursday, February 21, 194® City May Buy Old Fire i Station Site From U. P. City purchase, of the land now occupied by the old fire station, on North Second street in the rear of the-. Apache hotel, was discussed today by the city board and an offer of $2,500 was- made for the 25 foot strip. The purchase of the property has been in. the negotiation' stages- for the past-several weeks and a definite proposal was made to the board today by the Union; Pacific railroad company. The property originally wasj turned over to the' county in 1908 for civie purposes by the railroad! company. The purchase price at that time was $200. The deed! specifically stated that the prop-} erty was to be used for civic- purposes and when it was put to! other use - it would revert back! to the railroad company. The railroad company’s board of directors, when requested for a release- of the restrictions, informed the .city they felt the- railroad company should be allowed to participate in the increase' in value of the property and suggested a price of $2,500 for the 25 feet. The city board agreed to aedgpt such a proposal.
