Sparks residents have been -cooperating tie'arly. 100 per cent during the last two weeks, officials said, by watering their lawns on alternate days of. the week. Objective of the water company in both communities is to have all residents who live on the odd- numbered side of city streets’water their lawns on odd days of the month, while people• living in homes with even numbers do their sprinkling and irrigating on even days of the month. Officials yesterday 'expressed gratification at' the cooperative response given I their representatives in Sparks and are hopeful of the same reception in Reno. Not Mandatory They said yesterday that the water conservation/campaign is Strictly educational and that there is nothing mandatory about any of the suggestions their representatives tell residents. ' . However, water company officials pointed out that the correct use of water op-lawns and flower,, gardens will give every property owner a nicer lawn and a nice garden this summer. The representatives being sent around Reno are Well instructed in the correct use of water and the amount necessary to produce and keep a healthy lawn or garden. Primary purpose and ultimate goal of the current-Sierra Pacific Power Co. campaign to educate people both in Reno and Sparks in the correct Use of water to reduce the phenomenal amount of water consumed in the two com1 muni ties. Both Reno and Sparks customers, water company officials said yesterday, use from two to three times as much water both on a yearly , and a seasonal basis as the next highest consumer in any other city in the United States.
