Dear Sir: The conditions around the Company houses at Las Vegas are very had; the dust in the streets and alleys is several inches deep; and Ur. Bracken advises that we have lost a lot of good shop men Because their wives made such serious objections to these conditions. Ur. Bracken says the wind has'Lean blowing every day for weeks past and it has been impossible for housewives to keep the cottages clean. Ur. Bettis and I are of the opinion that the streets and alleys surrounding these cottages should be rolled and oiled, and also put in lawns in front of each of the Company houses, using Bermuda grass which requires very little-attention and if watered presents nearly, as good an appearance as blue grass, and the residents at Las Vegas who have tried lawns of blue grass have pot j been successful, on account of the excessive heat. I attach two bids from Kessrg Tuck and French of La S'Vegas. French’s bid is the lowest for plowing up and seeding the lots, f7.B0 per lot, or total expense of $469.50; and Tuck’s bid is the.lowest for rolling and oiling the streets and alleys amounting to f 310the Company to furnish the oil.
