Las Vegas, Oct. 18, 1919, Mr. J. Ross Clark, President, Las Vegas Land & Water Co,, Los Angeles, Calif. Dear Sir:- I am herewith enclosing copy of a letter from Mr. Kellogg under date of Oct. 9; also a letter from Mr. Maguire under date of Oct. 15, and my reply to the same concerning the furnishing of Company houses. These letters are all self-explanatory, and in this connection I wish to say that after spending three or four days in Los Angeles thoroughly looking up the subject of furnishing these Company houses, and one day in Salt Lake City with furniture dealers there, I find that it would be impossible for us to furnish the 4 room houses for less than #385.00 per house, and the 5 room houses for #465.00 per house. This amount of furniture would be of the cheapest kind and as little as could be purchased, so that people could go to housekeeping, and in view of the fact that as per Mr. Kellogg's letter this is not complying with his wishes in regard to cheap houses for rent, I would suggest that we postpone the furnishing of any Company houses for the present. If in case we are to furnish the Company hoQses we would have to receive rental in excess of $30*00 for the 4 room houses and $35.00 for the 5 room houses, so that we could make any showing at all on the investment. I really believe it would be more practicable for us to construct another room on to the 5 room houses and split the house into two apartments, and in this way we could make a rental of something under $20.00, which would possibly be what Mr. Kellogg has in mind. We have at present 22 vacant, 12 of these being 5 room houses and the other 10 4 rooms each. If you deem it advisable I will prepare an estimate of the cost of converting the 5 room houses with an additional room built on, into two apartments. Vice Pres. & Agent. cc A. Maguire
