Dear Sirs:- In the matter of rental of company houses at Las Yegas, last referred to in Mr. Clark’s letter of November 8th, file 1199, I hand the Committee herewith a copy of Mr, Davisson's letter dated September 23d, since which time I have had the rental of company houses up with the Santa Be and Southern Pacific. Mr. Wells of the Santa Pe advises me that they rent their Cottages on the desert on the basis of approximately seven per cent on the cost. Mr. Scott of the Southern Pacific advises that they have no fixed rental, but have handled the matter by taking into consideration in a general way the value of accommodations furnished in fixing the salary that goes with the position of the employee or officer who is furnished either a cottage or living rooms in a station building. My own idea is that we should not consider any profit in the matter, but should charge sufficient to allow interest on the cost and
