Sa n P edro, L os A ngeles & Sa l t L ake Railroad Co m pany. OFFICE OF GENERAL ATTORNEY. T. E. GIBBON, General Counsel.. C. O. WHITTEMORE, General Attorney. Salt Lake City, Utah, M8.y 17 , 1904. Mr. J. Ross Clark, Second Vice President, Los Angeles, Cal. Dear Mr, Clark I have yours of the 14th inst. in regard to the Las Vegas Ranch, and note that yon think it would not he wise to make any move in regard to laying out a townsite, making improvements , etc., until Mr. Hawgood has definitely located the railroad yards, etc., and I think do to. I note that Mr. Hawgood anticipates, if possible, making a trip there about the latter part of the mfcnth. I have written him that I may make a trip about the same time and if he will let me know when he is ready to start, I will try to meet him there. It would help you very much in determining the question of improvementslaying out of a townsite, etc., if you could first see the property and I trust that it may be possible for you to accompany Mr. Hawgood , Referring to the possibility of an attempt on the part of the Stewarts and others to claim that there is surplus water at the ranch and to their demand to use it, I advised Dr, Sracken while here to see to it that all the water was used, even if new ground had to be broken for this purpose. I discussed this among other matters with Mr. Gibbon at Ogden Saturday and he agrees with me , while the Stewarts may make us some trouble, if they attempt to claim any of the water, that there is no passible chance for them ultimately to succeed. Yours very respectfully, *
