Salt Lake City, Utah, April 25, 1903. Mr. Ross W. Etaith, Secretary, The Empire Construction Co* Los Angeles, Calif. Lear Sir, - Yours of the 21st received, I have purchased all the things mentioned on the list, with a few additional things that I deemed very necessary for theproper conduct of the work. I did not buy the hay press as I found the best I could do was $265,00 for the •Eclipse* which weighs 3200 lbs and measures from the front wheels to the rear wheels 18 ft, and 26 ft over all, which makes a long trail, and as I am sending two new wagons which will have to be trailed, I concluded this was not a good time to send the press. I find there will be about 12,OCX) lbs of freight not counting the two wagons. Lumber here weights 2 lbs per ft; the lumber at Manvel weighs 3 lbs per ft. I did not have much time to look around the second hand stores but did look some and concluded to buy all new things. I believe I got good prices but I explained before buying fhat the prices would be subjected to close Inspection and might have to be cut later. 1 learned from a letter Bracken wrote me that he succeeded in getting a good woman to cook and her husband to work on the ranch, both for $65.00 per month. I consider this a very low price, fje also stated he pruchased a team of horses and harness. So when he receives the stuff I am sending, he will have everything required to put the farm in the best possible condition. X would not mind being there then when I could have tools
