141 sick leave. S i c k leave with pay is to be granted only for actual sickness. N o sick leave w ill accrue during periods of absence or leave without pay of two weeks or more. It may be required that the employee submit a statement from the attending physician or submit to an examination by a physician appointed by the D istrict In connection with any request for sick leave. not specifically covered, on which discussion would be desirable are as follows: 1. Employee not incapacitated but visits doctor for examination or treatment. Presently granted, 2 . Employee visits dentist. Presently granted. . 3 . Employee incapacitated by industrial accident during period before compensation under Industrial Accident Insurance is received. Presently granted. 4 . Employee incapacitated by Industrial accident after beginning to receive compensation under Industrial Accident insurance. Has not come up. O TH ER ABSENCES W IT H O U T LO SS O F PAY There is no actual authority at present for paying employees during absences for reasons other than illness, although it has been the practice not to dock the employees salary for absences under certain conditions. Decisions are considered desirable in regard to absences for the following reasons: 1. Jury duty. Presently not paid. 2. Death in immediate fam ily. Presently paid. 3 . Illness or Injury in immediate fam ily. Presently paid only under certain circumstances. 4 . Attendance at funerals of cjose relatives. Presently p a id . . . . . • • /; 5. Attendance.at other funerals. Presently not pqid. 6 . . Physical examinations under Selective Service. Presently not paid. . 7 . , Court appearances. Presently not paid. It is suggested that if pay for absences is authorized for any of the.reasons 2, 3 , 4 , 5 or 7 above# it.be on a permissive basis at the discretion of the Manager, or made subject to Board approval# because of the difficulty in defining the degrees of urgency and establishing the permissable length of absence in general terms. It is also suggested that all absences with pay of one- more be chprged against the time allowed for sick leave with pa y.
