LAS VEGAS VALLEY AS V E G A S , N E V A D A Wednesday, July 19, 1950 LAS VEGAS MORNING SUN 3 City Board Slated To Take Action On Watering Protests ji The board of city commission-!?, p s is scheduled to act Friday | an the increasing number of if protests to the ban on daytime wktfering. of lawns, it was re- j. ported yesterday. City Manager Chester Shelley said that his office as well as ' those of board members have been beseiged in recent days by homeowners protesting the Current regulations which prompts citizens to begin lawn waterings at 6 p. m. He said that because the residents are required - to confine their lawn watering to the evening hours or those in the early morning, water pressure. in every section of the city drops far below, normal. Last week, the city commissioners directed Shelley to study remedies which will stop the avalanche of complaints and report back at the meeting this week. Although the Las VegaS Land and Water Co. warded off direct action. a month ago to lift the watering ban, which was in the Works on account of complaints, it Was indicated yesterday that definite action will be taken Friday to ease or remove the regulation on lawn sprinkling during the day. liD LV Z&- K Xo - R<wt cW 'J Serious Wafer Shortage To Be Aired By Bunker Frida' The serious water shortage in Las Vegas is scheduled to aired at tomorrow’s meeting of the city commission and Commissioner Wendell Bunker invited interested water users to be present and join in the discussion. Bunker said today he was “ tired acting as a front for the water company” in trying to explain away the water shortage, and that he would have “ plenty to say for the record” at tomorrow’s meeting concerning the situation. “ The poeple of Las Vegas are not going to listen to any more promise's. That’s all they’ve been getting — promises but very little water,” Bunker declared.. . “ It’s absolutely tragic the way lawns are going to ruin this summer because there isn’t enough water to go around and because of the ridiculous restrictions put on use,” he continued. “ We were promised last summer this wouldn’t happen again! It’s worse this year than in 1949, and it will be worse next year if we don’t do something about it. Unless we’re assured a workable plan will be put into effect which will relieve the situation by ’ next-year, I’m in favor of the city taking over the utility and I’m deadly serious. “ The city’s getting the blame for all this because we’re the ones who are passing the ordinances and sending out our policemen to harass pepole who only are desperately trying to save the lawns they’ve spent years working on. I think the blame should be placed where it belongs. The water company has fallen down on the job tragically.” Bunker said he hoped the city could work out a plan for Changing the hours --of , watering to make them more workable and satisfactory, and would propose a motion to carry out that program. The meeting will be held in the city commissioner chambers in .the. city hall starting at 3 o’ clock and Bunker said the public would ? be welcome to attend. ? WENDELL BUNKER si cs JQ ^ 'd , 13'
