Squires TODAY'S PROGRAM Our new chairman of the program com-mittee, Ed Converse, has secured as our speaker today Mr. Alden Hatch, formerly of Cedarhurst, New York The speaker, who has confined the majority of his work to articles and "books of a biographical nature, will speak on the intimate biogra-phy of the late General George Patton. With his brother, Mr. Eric Hatch, our speaker forms a fraternity writing team of national recognition. The presiding officer for today will be Jim Shaver. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LAST WEEK Our programmed speaker for last week was Edward J. Greeley, who gave us a most striking and convincing talk on the A.A. His discourse was notable for its out-spoken sincerity, and was one of the most entertaining the club has enjoyed for many a day. President Leonard Fayle presided over the meeting, the first during M s term of office. Secretary Allye introduced the speaker A feature of the meeting was the an-nouncement by Program Chairman Ed Converse that he intends to have bigger and better programs than ever before if possible, especially he plans to present more"cnaft" talks. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CROSBY MADE DP Crosby Lovett reports making up his Rotary attendance in San Francisco, where there were 77 visiting Rotarians present, including men from India, Sweden, Norway and Finland..... It is really a privilege to be permitted to visit Rotary Clubs in other cities. There is always something striking and interesting going on. Crosby reports: "Had a great day at Rotary. The speaker was the former Pres-ident of the Northern BaptistnCoavention, a friend who graduated from the same school as myself." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * DISTRICT OFFICERS' CONFERENCE President Leonard Fayle and Secretary Allye Lawson are in Los Angeles attending the District Officers conference. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BILL FERRON ILL Word comes from San Francisco that Rotarian Bill Ferron, on vacation with Rotary Ann Ruth, is quite ill at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, LeoRgie. Rotary sends him greetings and best wishes for a quick resumption of the va-cation tour. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * MADE UP MIKE McNAMEE, Rochester, Minnesota FRED O'DONNELL, Boulder City JIM SHAVER, Sparks, Nevada WAS CHARTER MEMBER Dr. Robert H. Gatewood has returned from a hurried trip by air to the old home in Nebraska, called by the serious illness of his mother. Dr. Bob did not fail to make up his Rotary meeting attendance. He was last week at the McCook, Nebraska, meeting. It was doubly interesting because Dr. Bob was chiefly responsible for the formation of the McCook Rotary Club, of which he was a charter member. The club was started December 14, 1921, and received its charter April 21, 1922, being an older club than Las Vegas Rotary... However, Doc reports that Las Vegas has out-distanced McCook both in number of members and club activities. All Rotarians sympathize with Dr.Gate-wood because of the very serious and dis-tressing condition of his mother. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Our Pal, Harry Miller, is acting as a deputy sheriff for the next few days while "Soup" Stewart is on his vacation. How's it feel, Harry, to be back in the saddle again as a law enforcement officer?.... "Bull's Eye Harry", as he was known in the old days, was Chief of Police of &as Vegas in the old days of thousands of workmen on the construction payrolls. Only a few Rotarians remember that he car-ried on with credit through many exciting episodes. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * HOME AGAIN AND O.K. Mike McNamee, who was obliged to re-turn to the Mayo Brothers Clinic at Roch-ester, Minnesota, last week, arrived home yesterday morning early He is feeling well again. About the most interesting thing he did while absent was to make up his attendance to the Rochester, Minnes-ota, Rotary Club. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * VISITING ROTARIANS We were happy to have with us last week the following Rotarians, members of other Rotary Clubs: DR.
