For forty-five years, the Fayle family has been among our very closest and dearest friends. Since the death of that splendid char-acter, George A. Fayle, in the terri-ble influenza epidemic in the winter of 1918, we have been very close to the widow, Jean, her sons Leonard and Arthur, and her daughter Jean, now de-ceased. In the passing of this fine example of family leadership and civic enterprise, Southern Nevada suffers an irreparable loss. All members of Las Vegas Rotary Club extend their deep synpathy to cm-bereaved President Leonard and all surviving relatives. PRESIDENT LEONARD'S SEMI-ANNUAL COLUMN At this time of the year, it is probably in order that the Club have an inventory and report of activities. We have an active membership of 95, plus 4 honorary members; 9 of our ac-tive members are delinquent in dues — for a total of <p250. There are four proposals in process^ 1950 dues now acceptable. We have a bank balance of $3,520.36, out of which will be paid $384.00 as Interna-tional and District dues. The program committee has supplied us with a good assortment of enter-tainments, seven of which dealt with community service; six on international situations, of which one was a moving picture and one a recording; five of our programs have dealt with business problems, and four of our members have given craft talks. Besides the Dis-trict Governor's meeting, we have had four distinctly Rotary talks, one of which was a reciprocal meeting con-ducted by the Boulder City Club. And we had a very pleasant joint meeting with the Kiwanis Club at Thanksgiving time. Our ladies have been entertain-ed twice at the District Governor's dinner and the Christmas Party. My thanks to the Program Committee and those who worked so hard on the spec-ial affairs. About $5,500 has been pledged to WHEEL OF ROTARY Page 3 the Public Library Fund, of which alreadyi $3,000 is in the bank, in the care of Paul McDermott. For the other most noteworthy commun-i ity project, much credit is due "Scoop" G-arside and his wife, whose personal ef- { forts in cooperation with members of the Las Vegas Fire Department did such an outstanding job in repairing and distri-buting toys to the underprivileged chil-dren of the area this past Christmas. My thanks go to the 44 members who have maintained 100% attendance, and thus helped to keep the Club at about District average. My regrets go to those whose fellowship we missed. R0TARILY — LEONARD FAYLE way. * * * n TEE TRAVELER Jim Shaver, our champion traveler, reports a very interesting trip which started with a flight from Los Angeles to San Diego about three miles out fryn the Coast which provided a very ^Beautiful view.... Innes, started in last week's "WEEEL"t) "Alas, our American student may not pursue her archaeological studies as she intended. She has fallen for a Scot and I hear they are to be wed in College Chapel early in the yearI So that will be another link forged between USA and Auld Scotland..... I heartily recipro-cate your hope that the slide toward communism will be stopped soon. New Zealand and Australia have shown us the attended the Colorado River Hater Users Association meeting and was elected Secretary of that important body. The meeting was of great in-terest, with some good talks on problems of the Colorado River Basin. Jim motored to El Centro and stayed at the fine hotel there but admits he never did find out what is Barbara Worth. Next day he pur-sued his course to Mexicali but could not find Mexicali Rose. So, it is necessary to cut the story too short with the bare statement that he returned by way of the in-teresting Colorado River develop-ments, reaching home Sunday night, BAD STATISTICS Secretary Allye wishes to adjust those attendance statis-tics published in The Wheel last week, by proposing the following readjustments in the table of at-tendance July 1 to Dec. 31, 1949: BUD BARTLETT, 96% was inadver-tantly omitted...SEBASTIAN MIKUL-ICH, 100%, was erroneously re-' ported 96% because a secretary failed to send in promptly his. make-up card.
