Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY JULY 28, 1949 TODAY'S PROGRAM Tom Wilson of the Wilson Advertise ing Agency, Reno, came down on Bonanza Air Lines last evening and will he oujr speaker today.... He will recount some of the problems he encountered in get-ting authentic information for the series of historical sketches used by Harold's Club in their advertising. LAST WEEK Jake Von Tobel was the first of our members who attended the convention of Rotary International in New York to make a report. He frankly admitted, that he had a really good time in New York and that the Convention in Madi-son Square Garden was a great show. Past-President Lorin Ronnow and President Leonard Fayle both made in-teresting reports on the various ses-sions of the Convention. Angelo Manzi, local head of the Boys' State movement for the American Legion, introduced Jack Cherry, Jr., and Lee Edwards, who represented. Las Vegas Rotary at the Boys' State Week in Rene and Carson City. Both the boys spoke on features of the affair and expressed thanks for the support of Rotary. Both addresses were full of interest and information. Buck Newsom, in the absence of Max Kelch, gave a resume of the latest KENO radio news. CHILLY CLIMATE Frank Garside gave us a chill last week—he nearly broke his several yr's record of 10C% attendance. Then our fears were set at rest when we received a make-up card from the Rotary Club of Juneau, Alaska, Tuesday. Secretary Allye says "Thanks." DIRECTORS' MEETING Last Thursday evening, July 21st, President Leonard had a meeting of the Board of Directors with a group of committee chairmen at his home, 1123 Francis Avenue.... More than a dozen enjoyed discussions of Rotary problems, the chief subject of the evening being "Rotary Classifications", of which Tex Blackoan was chief spokesman...Several of the baby Rotarians were present by invitation and received their first lessons in Rotary.... C.P. Squires gave a short review of seme of the early history of Las Vegas Rotary Club. Following the more formal part of the meeting, Lennie served a Dutch lunch which filled a long-felt want.... All of which means that if any of you fellows are invited to one of these evening meetings at Lennie's, you bet-ter go. HOPPING ABOUT Program Chairman Ed Converse is home again after hopping to New York and back the past week.... He is glad to be in Las Vegas again to get relief from the heat and humidity of New York. Ed left New York at 11:00 p.m. Tues-day and arrived in Las Vegas at 8:40 am Wednesday, with the Rotary program all arranged. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Director Harry Allen has returned from his vacation in Utah where he , - S WHEEL OP ROTARY Page 3 SH! QUI.ET! Last week Myrt Ronnow "inadvert-ently" gave President Len what she declared was Lorin's "Joke Book" but which, on close inspection, turned out to be a copy of the Police Ga-zette (which of course was exhibited to the club), LLOYD DOUGLAS Our distinguished Honorary Rotar-ian, Dr. Lloyd Douglas, will be fea-tured in a LOOK Magazine for August 19th, which should make all members of Las Vegas Rotary Club proud. CLUB INVITATION President Lorin has a letter from J. Randolph Richards, President of Pasadena Rotary Club, inviting our members to attend an Inter-City meet-ing at Pasadena, at noon on January 4, 1950 The occasion will be the visit of our International President Percy Hodgson, and a great meeting is anticipated. CHILDREN'S SHOP Have you seen Rotarian Cliff Huntington's children's shop in its new location? Cliff extends an in-vitation to all Rotarians to visit it (whether you have children or not). It's a lovely new shop, well worth visiting. NET STORE Jack Wollenzien has a new store at Henderson, according to reports. LA RUEDA Boulder City Rotary Club has a clas-sy new Club Publication named "La Rueda" which is Spanish for "The Wheel"—an es-pecially appropriate name for this lo-cality.... The Editor is Otto J. littler, and he is doing *a**n* *o*u*t*s tanding job. WE REGRET With Boulder City Rotarians, we sincerely regret the removal to Cali-fornia of our favorite Sky Pilot, Rev. Winston Trevor Winston was<M.;much a favorite of Las Vegas as he was of Boulder City, and we join with his home club in wishing him the very best in his new pastorate. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * IN ROTARY The basis of membership is "Classi-fication."
