Making a Club Work-Success comes before work only in the dictionary. Lend a hand and offer a solution to the pro-blem. Progress is not one man's job. It takes the en-tire club, all pulling to-gether. President Mukasa believes that it is important to think "Young" when considering pros-pective members. A few years ago when he was an R. I. direct-or, he made the following obser-vation at the International Assembly, which is tempered with sound advice: "An inactive Rotary Club without any member-ship growth is, so to say, like a home of a couple in the stage of weariness of their married life. Such a club needs young members, as married couples need children. Qualified young members bring impetus and energy into the club and rejuvenate it." Joe Buckley Invocation Jack McCarley Song Leader Garwood Van Introduction of Visiting Rotarians Rick Fore There was truly a bit of the Blarney floating around at last weeks regular luncheon meeting of the Las Vegas Rotary Club. One would think it was St. Patrick's Day. Jack McCarley gave what had to be the shortest ever invocation, Irish ver-sion . Garwood Van led the group in singing some good old Irish songs specially requested by our good Pres. Joe. Joe, do you have some Irish blood in you? Garwood had a contingent of Irish crooners on stage to warble some tunes, but when he asked them to do the Irish Jig, the Jig was up. * HEAD TABLE * You could truly tell the day had a real Irish touch to it when seated at the head table was the likes of Joe McMurray, Jack McCarley and Lloyd (Mc) Sauter. Where were you Bill McGrew, and Joe McNamee and Dave Mc- Nellis. * VISITING ROTARIANS * Introducing visiting Rotarians and guests last week was Rick Fore. We had visitors from Hamilton, Australia; Greater Clark County; Washington; Middletown, Ohio; Reno, Nevada; Jack-sonville, Florida; Lake Jackson, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; San Diego, California; Seattle, Washington; Monomeny, Wisconsin; British Columbia, Canada; and Las Vegas Paradise. We also had eight guests of Rotarians visiting us. * 60th ANNIVERSARY * Vern Willis brought us up-to-date with a bit of nostalgia and reminded us of the 60th Anniversary Party of our club coming up on April 7th. That is a Thursday evening and a real party is being planned. Dinner, dancing, cost-umes of the 20's, the "Flapper Genera-tion." All this will take place at the Union Plaza Hotel. Make your plans for a real fun night on April 7th. * DOC SYLVESTER LEAVES * Doc Sylvester has been taken back to Indiana where he can be closer to his family. We will miss Doc in our midst and we wish him well in his new Indiana Home. * RECOGNITION DAY * It was recognition day for Rick Fore and Dave Boyer. Both received $100 worth of recognition, Rick for his work with Big Brother/Big Sister, and David for his recent promotion. Congratula-tions to both of you. * DISTRICT CONFERENCE MANUAL * The Las Vegas Rotary Clubs manual show-ing the many community service projects our club has been involved in is being prepared for the District Conference at San Diego in April. It's amazing to see the many projects our club has been involved in throughout the year. * PROGRAM * LAST WEEK: Our guest speaker was Bruce Spaulding, Clark County Manager who spoke on County Government. Bruce is also President this year of the National Association of County Administrators. THIS WEEK; Mr. J. Seakin who will speak on Foreign Trade Zone. ELLSBERG The criteria for selection of Rotarians of the Year is based upon membership in a Southern Nevada Rotary Club with em-phasis being placed on achievements during the person's years as a Rotarian with the local club, district, zone and international. Consideration is given for the person's community endeavors. Candidates are also judged on adherence to service above self in the four-way test in business and profession. Current club presidents are not eligible. With this year's winners we certainly have a fine bunch of Rotarians who are a credit to their clubs, District 530 and Rotary International. FROM THE RI CLIPSHEET Increasing Membership-Now that Rotary International's Membership is approach-ing one million, our club might make a special effort to increase its membership and share in the benefits of Rotary with other men: This will not only strength-en the goals of growth that Paul Harris encouraged, but also will help to ensure the future of R.I.
